AUBURN - Alex Gatewood scored three of S-K Post runs in the team's 15-6 win over Union Springs Post in American Legion action at Veteran's Field Thursday.

Gatewood helped guide S-K Post with two hits, including a double and a walk. The fourth inning was the biggest of them all for S-K Post as they scored seven runs off of five hits. Matt Wild knocked a double to score Dave Sargent as the first run of the inning. Ryan LaRue then roped a double to bring in Zach Frost. LaRue would also score on an Eric Conway RBI base hit.
Union Springs Post recorded their own big inning in the top of the third when they tied it at four. Austin Doody started the inning off with a single and would score along with Andrew Klock on a two RBI single by Dave Wilczek. Wilczek and Caleb Lyndacker both rounded the bases on a single by Mike Gordan. Jared Bretherton would strike out to end the inning for SK Post.
Auburn's Bob Buckley would earn the win as he lasted five innings, allowed five hits, gave up four earned runs and struck out six. At the plate Buckley drew a walk in the first inning, but remain stranded on the base path. ACF collected 10 hits in the game with Gatewood, Conway and Jeff Donofrio leading the way with two hits apiece. Conway also scored multiple times, brought a run in and picked up a double.
“It was key tonight to see our bats come alive tonight,” Auburn's coach Eric Short said. “We've struggled a bit lately, but turned it around tonight.”
Burns came into relieve Buckley and would allow two runs, from three hits and a walk, while striking out four. He struck out the side to end the game after giving up a double to Colin Parry in the top of the seventh.
“(Buckley and Burns) both threw well tonight,” Short said. “Buckley mixed his pitches up well and Frost came into get some action. I was very pleased with his (Burns) performance tonight.”
Jim Burns earned the loss for SK Post as he lasted just over three innings, allowing eight hits and 10 runs to score, while striking out two.
Auburn Correctional Facility has been practicing and preparing for the District Tournament that will be held next week.
