The state Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality health advisory for its western New York, Eastern Lake Ontario, New York City Metro and Long Island regions, from 1 to 10 p.m. Friday.

The Eastern Lake Ontario region includes the northern half of Cayuga County.

Such advisories are issued when state DEC and state Department of Health officials anticipate higher levels of pollution, either ozone or fine particulate matter.

Summer heat can contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone.

To be safe, people should consider limiting outdoor vigorous activity.
