This week's question, for county legislator Patrick McIntosh: Because you were appointed to your position, voters may not know where you stand on issues. What do you think the Legislature's top priorities should be?
I believe that the Legislature should make a couple of things a priority.
Seeking to bring manufacturing companies back into the area should be the primary focus. This would help to create new jobs that would employ many of the citizens in our community whom have lost jobs they once held within the manufacturing industry.
This business sector naturally creates additional jobs and companies that are needed to support a manufacturer's efforts, unlike many of the service sector jobs that you find in our county today, particularly Auburn.
By creating new decent paying jobs, the county would have more people contributing to the tax base which would in turn help to reduce the overall tax burden on the citizens of our county and increase the county's population.
Another area that I would to see focused on is what I refer to as neighborhood revitalization.
I would like to see a concentrated effort to work with the city, towns, and villages in our county to remove or rebuild structural eyesores in our communities.
There are many beautiful homes within our communities that have deteriorated and I think a lot of the reason is because there is a lack of owner occupied properties.
In my district, District 15, there are a significant amount of homes that could be revitalized and restored to the appealing appearance they once had.
I have reached out to neighborhood organizations like the Orchard Street Association and will reach out to others in my district to help them get the tools and support they need to turn these communities around.
I think it is pretty simple concept, that is not easily obtained but well worth the required efforts.
Create jobs that can employ many of the skilled workers that are still in our community before they all move away and create alluring peaceful neighborhoods for people to live in.
When we do this our community will prosper.
