MISS: To the town of Sennett, which continues to obstruct the opening of a local business.
The owners of the former Pioneer Restaurant property, now called Bonca's, opened their doors for ice cream over the weekend despite not having a certificate of occupancy from the town code enforcement officer. Normally, we would not condone such an action, but it's become clear that certain town officials are simply trying to do everything they can to prevent this establishment from opening because it's become personal.
The building is safe, and in fact much nicer than it had been prior to the renovation project. The process has been followed. It's time to move on.
With the condition of plenty of properties in the town, not to mention the shape the Pioneer building was in until these owners purchased it, the town could better spend its code enforcement efforts elsewhere.
Sennett's Town Board is scheduled to meet tonight at 7 p.m. We urge town residents to show up and voice their opinions on this matter.
HIT: To the annual Book Bonanza at the Fingerlakes Mall in Aurelius.
The fundraiser for St. Joseph School was once again a hit last weekend, as thousands of people came out to gobble up cheap, gently used books. What's so encouraging about this event is that it not only raises funds for a good cause, but it also reflects that there's still plenty of interest in reading.
HIT: To the new sense of excitement surrounding the Sterling Renaissance Festival, which kicked off a new season on Saturday.
New ownership is looking to invest in growing the attraction, and even expanding beyond the famous summertime festival for events during other seasons.
The festival for years has been a key part of Cayuga County's tourism industry, and it sure looks like that's going to continue.
