Instead of trying to find new industries to relocate in Auburn, let's help our existing industries grow and expand. Are we doing everything we can to help present employers survive and thrive ?

Just because Bonca's is owned by a left-wing closet liberal, it's allowed to get away with opening without the proper licenses. Any other business in town would not be allowed to open.

How about giving Harriet Tubman a rest and talking about another great person, giving that person a place in our lives in the city of Auburn. There must be one.

Barack Hussein Obama's past statements that it's less important for immigrants to this country to learn English than it is for Americans to learn Spanish, and it's more important for the Americans to learn the Muslim religion than for the Muslims to understand the Christian religion is very, very disturbing, very insulting and very dangerous that this Marxist should become our next president.

The road work downtown is going so slow and it looks horrible as usual. What's the purpose of all the manhole covers, I've never seen so many manhole covers and never seen anybody go in or out of them?

" I figure the Monson thing is like the Kennedy thing: We have surely heard the true story, but we'll never know which one it is among the many. "

Farmer's Gal wrote on Jul 16, 2008 11:31 AM:

" No particular connection with the Monson thing -- just that it was about that long ago. It's an event that happened around here that most people remember, so it's a shared point of reference.

Well, at the time, people were muttering things about the judge's son, but then, they muttered a lot of things about that son. He was later snapped up in that big drug bust a couple years ago, so I don't have to worry about implying the guy is a criminal -- he is!

I dunno, Karl -- I tend not to buy most of the Satanists-under-the-bed hysteria either, but there was something that just FELT like something more about that particular group. You know me -- I don't believe in all that Christian stuff, neither the god part nor the devil part, so I don't get worked up that evil is being raised or something.

But there are truly bad people in the world, some who take pains and strive to be bad, people who just give you the creeps in general. That's the vibe I got off that whole business. I could be wrong, and I'd like to think I am not the hysterical type, but I didn't like that bunch.

Somebody did kill a bat and leave it as an offering -- that part I can say from first-hand, FWIW. There was an awful lot of vandalism in the cemetary, and I saw that first-hand too. The incident with the skull was documented in the news, though I don't know it was ever determined if those folks were the same as the other vandals. And I used to be friends with Lydia the crow lady (still am, I suppose, I just don't see her often), who loves that space and took personal offense at the vandalism and particulary the desecration of the grave of the woman, Lydia.

And there was the statuatory rape thing which was declared a mistrial, if I remember correctly. (The girl was 13, if I have the details right). I was just very new to the area back then and don't recall every bit of it -- just that when the prosecutors brought up SOTS, the defense used it as an excuse to declare a mistrial, something to do with not bringing their religion into it. That part is very fuzzy and would be better explained by someone who lived in Auburn at the time and followed the trial.

You could be right -- maybe just immature adult punks -- but I just got a bad vibe off the whole business. "

The poor little fella was limp and unresponsive, but they took him to an animal rescue center, gave him some pain killers, and he is now up and about, eating and recovering nicely.

Another story of bad news tempered with good: This morning at 2:05 AM, Farmer Guy and I were awakened by the emergency alarms going off outside. It wasn't long before he had a phone call that a neighboring farm had a barn fire. He went right over in case any animals were loose (better to have an experienced dairyman helping get cows out of the road in case they get in the way of firetrucks than someone who doesn't know how to handle cows). There were no cows loose, so he came back, gave me the news, changed clothes and went back to offer a hand getting the 200-and-some animals who survived loaded into trucks to take to other farms to be milked. While the loss of the 40-60 animals in the one barn is very sad, and it's a hard blow that the milking parlor was destroyed, it is encouraging to see neighbors pull together to help out, offering conveyances and spaces and people to get the confused and upset animals settled in new temporary places.

I'll keep an eye out for more untempered good news. "

Some good new is that Judge Fandrich gave that guy from Weedsport the max penalty for molesting those boys- he didn't give him a slap on the wrist.

Also, a girl in Queens was reunited with her dog that was missing for 5 yrs. Her dog was found all the way in Georgia. The dog turned up in some shelter and it had a chip so it was returned to the little gilr in Queens NY. I thought that was a good story because she is still young enough to appreciate the return of her dog.

My sons (he is 5 and is in sand lot baseball) baseball team won his game last night and he was given a game ball. He absolutely cherishes the game ball.

" Obama: Incompetence we can believe in.
This guy is completely clueless and has no business being Commander in Cheif. Joe Leiberman rags on his editorial about strategy in Iraq from the NY Slimes:
Sen. Obama said this morning that he wants a foreign policy that is tough, smart and principled,” said Lieberman. “This afternoon I want to ask my colleague who I respect and like a couple of direct questions: Was it tough when Sen. Obama voted to order U.S. troops to retreat from Iraq on a fixed timeline regardless of the recommendations of our military commanders or conditions on the ground? Was it smart when Sen. Obama opposed the surge and predicted that it would fail to improve our security? … Was it tough and principled when Sen. Obama said he would be open to changing his plan on Iraq after going there and talking to General Petraeus, which I think was the right position, only to change that position hours later after being heatedly criticized by organizations like MoveOn.org? I say respectfully the answer to all those questions is, no.”

Some more critisism of Obama's complete lack of reality regarding the same editorial:

The Times commentary drew a furious response from the McCain campaign, with Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) calling it “an unbelievably brazen effort by a politician to rewrite history.” He accused Obama of building “a political strategy around losing” the war.
Republicans were not alone in that response. Michael E. O’Hanlon, a Democratic defense analyst at the Brookings Institution who has been an outspoken supporter of the war in Iraq, said he could not believe that Obama would put such a definitive timeline into print before a trip to Iraq, where he is to consult with Iraqi leaders and U.S. commanders.
“To say you’re going to get out on a certain schedule — regardless of what the Iraqis do, regardless of what our enemies do, regardless of what is happening on the ground — is the height of absurdity,” said O’Hanlon, who described himself as “livid.” “I’m not going to go to the next level of invective and say he shouldn’t be president. I’ll leave that to someone else.” "

" I just don't want to get on the bad side of those people; in fact, I don't want anything to do with them in any way. Some of their members are rumored to be fairly well-placed in this town. They are a creepy, scary lot. SOTS stands for Sons of the Stone, and you can see that graffiti on a lot of things at Fort Hill Cemetary. I don't know if all the bits are still there, as I haven't visited in a couple years, but the markings used to lead, like a trail of breadcrumbs, from the Logan monument, across by the grave of some semi-famous gypsy around to the one hill which has a low stone circle and which is the only one in the cemetary with no monument in the center. That hill has been completely vandalized, all the gravestones have been tipped or torn out, the trees have been carved as well as painted with graffiti, and beneath it is the tomb which held the stolen skull of Lydia. I'd suppose that's where they did/do whatever they do there.

It's a shadowy group, but what little is known isn't on the positive side, and I probably should not have even mentioned them in the first place -- just that they have been linked to a lot of the vandalism and level of danger at night in the cemetary, and they are NOT "just kids" -- that much I can say.

Who is it on here who lives near the cemetary? You have anything to say on the subject? "

My youngest-9-wants to be a VET-if she had it her way we would have a farm on our 1/4 acre! Right now we are down to 3 dogs,4 cats,1 bunny,1 hamster, and 1 gecko and 1 goldfish!
I usually care for the dogs & cats, she MUST care for the rest or they will find a home and there will be no more.

The problem is parents always say YES to he cute little critter then it becomes old and not so cute, yet that doesn't mean the responsibility ends!

Plus the cost of care. She used to say "just write a check or use your credit card" until she has to earn monies to buy pet food and supplies. Her allowance shows pets in a different light.

EVERYONE should have their animals fixed-if they cannot afford that-they cannot afford shots or long term care.
And worse a litter!

I had a neighbor move 2yrs ago leaving behind her 4 cats. Another neighbor seems to have adopted them by way of leaving dog food out for his dog. Recently one of the youngsters has been hanging around my shed-someday I figure it will come thru the doggy door that mine use!

we had a huge feral group around the corner--it was all woods-but everyone strolls around the block at night, many bringing food to them-just before the woods were about to be cut down-an SPCA van showed and was there all day, they received shots and were fixed and released.
They were easy to catch since they were used to humans bringing them food daily.
Many ferals have been retrained and become great house pets.

NL: the problem wont end by killing because tomorrow some parent will dump off or close the door on their next childs whim.....

CNN's Situation Room played a clip of Obama saying this about his plan for Iraq:

BARACK OBAMA: I'm going to call in the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and give them a new mission, and that is to bring the war in Iraq to a close. We are going to get out.

There's only one problem. The Joint Chiefs of Staff does not have operational command of U.S. military forces. That authority resides in the commanders of the various Unified Combatant Commands.

Also:
The presumed Democratic nominee replaced his Iraq issue Web page, which had described the surge as a ‘problem’ that had barely reduced violence. ‘The surge is not working,’ Obama's old plan stated, citing a lack of Iraqi political cooperation but crediting Sunni sheiks - not U.S. military muscle - for quelling violence in Anbar Province. …

"Obama's campaign posted a new Iraq plan Sunday night, which cites an "improved security situation" paid for with the blood of U.S. troops since the surge began in February 2007. It praises G.I.s' ‘hard work, improved counterinsurgency tactics and enormous sacrifice.’ Campaign aide Wendy Morigi said Obama is ‘not softening his criticism of the surge. We regularly update the Web site to reflect changes in current events.’ ”

Why would you make that comment?
I don't know who you are, but you sound racist. Keep talking your smack. Your true colors are beginning to shine. "

" sorry brew but the parents knew there is always the chance they will get nailed by INS..hey purposely had children to hopefully have an excuse for breaking the law! and Sobbers feeling sorry for them--"my babies all alone" please!!!
Since our wallets are going to pay for the kids one way or another, that leaves foster care or they go back HOME with mom & dad!!! "

" Walmart can be a gateway to employees who want to work their way up the chain of command. They can become dept mgrs, asst mgrs, store mgrs or area and regional mgrs. It can offer promotion to very good paying jobs that are hard to come by without college degrees. They also offer tuition assistance programs so that someone can earn a degree while working. A job at Walmart is somewhat like the Army. Be what you can be. If you have the drive and ambition you can better yourself in any chain retail store or even at Micky Ds or Burger Barn. "

" You are despicable in your attitude towards children of illegal immigrants. The children didn't break the law the parents did. The INS must work with social agencies to protect the children and families. We punish criminals but we try to avoid harming their families. Children should not return from school and their parents are missing. They may need medicines to be given by these parents.
As usual you pervert peoples words to serve your heinous motives. Obama said that when he goes to foreign countries many people speak english and few Americans can speak foreign languages. We should learn a foreign language to open up our outlook to the rest of the world. But you have to twist his words for your own political benefit. "

the first place a respective buyer looks is at the police blotters.
the crime.
they do not want to employ druggies, or insure druggies under their business name.
What the city needs to do is clean house! "

" Some more wisdom from the Obamessiah, from a recent speech to the racist group La Raza (who McCain is unfortunately engaging as well):

"When communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids, when nursing mothers are torn from their babies, when children come home from school to find their parents missing, when people are detained without access to legal counsel, when all that is happening, the system just isn’t working, and we need to change it."

So, our immigration agents who are enforcing the law are now terrorists.
Nice. Illegal workers wouldn’t get rounded up and arrested by ICE if they hadn’t entered the country illegally. When people break the law, they’d better be prepared to get arrested.
Obama also recently said that we should learn Spanish...I always thought that if you immigrate to a country, you learn the national language-not the other way around. "

Who cares how many people they hired those same people still wind up on food stamps and medicaid, most are not full time and do not recieve company medical or enough pay to feed their family. "

Sheesh, and I thought all you neo-con/right-wing whackos liked the idea of less government interference. I guess that doesn't apply to "left-wing closet liberals" You people are so absurd you crack me up. "
