It was nice to see such a positive letter as that written by Helen D. Lane in the July 8 The Citizen.
Her letter you may recall was written to thank the CORE workers and their supervisor for their recent efforts at the Wilcox Cemetery in Genoa. Helen mentioned that her husband and his brother, John and Donald Lane, have mowed and maintained a portion of this same cemetery for over 20 years; also that the Armstrong family was responsible for clearing some brush and having new stones set for some veterans last year, including those from the Revolutionary War.
As a member of the Owasco Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), I enjoyed reading about all these efforts to preserve and honor the memory of our Revolutionary War veterans, as well as veterans of the Civil War.
The Lane brothers and the Armstrong family as well as the CORE crew should be thanked for all their efforts.
There are so many older cemeteries around Cayuga County that are the final resting places of our Revolutionary War veterans.
Paying a little attention and care to one in your neighborhood would be a wonderful way to convey your family's respect and thanks for the service of these veterans to their country.
