HIT: To a fun-filled Fourth of July weekend, packed with family events all over Cayuga County and the greater central New York region.
From the big fireworks show at Emerson Park to the boat parade in Fair Haven and the Southern Cayuga garden tour, activities appealed to all sorts of interests. It was also nice to see so many communities and homes flying American flags, a good reminder of what the holiday is all about.
HIT: To the New York Institute of Dance and Education and the Auburn Public Theater, both organizations making a big community impact by fostering arts and entertainment.
NYIDE this week kicks off its annual New York Dance Festival, which offers a range of public performances, starting with a Thommie Walsh tribute gala on Thursday night.
APT, which started construction of a new entrance over the weekend, next week will unveil the newest fixture at its downtown facility when its APT Cinema hosts the first showing of a movie downtown since the 1970s.
MISS: To the Throop garage fire that apparently reignited after it was initially put out, causing extensive damage to the home that was attached to the garage.
The entire incident spanned from Sunday night into Monday morning, and by the time it was over, a local family was forced from home.
HIT: To a solid showing for the Cayuga County Fair, which concluded its four-day run on Sunday.
This year the fair encountered some big obstacles.
There was opening day that was significantly impacted by rain as well as the fireworks show at Emerson Park. And the fact that one day of the fair fell on the Fourth of July was probably not good for attendance.
Despite all of that, turnout was just below 15,000, a slight decrease from a year ago.
