Be aware of distress signs on lake; thanks to deputies

I am a senior citizen lady who lives on Owasco Lake. Late last summer I had the experience of having my boat break down when I was a long way from home. I put up my orange flag and waved it for a long time. Boats going by ignored me completely. I even used my emergency boat horn (in an aerosol can) to attract attention and no one came to my aid. I finally called the Sheriff and two wonderful young men came within a short time to help me. They towed my boat home and made sure I had a warm coat to cover me as it was quickly approaching dark. I felt very guilty when one of the men told me he was missing his son's third birthday party to help me out but they assured me it was all right.
I want to remind people using the lake to look out once in a while to see if everything is okay and if anyone is in trouble to help them. Also, please be aware of the signals which indicate that someone is in need of help. I also want to thank the Sheriff's department for the excellent job they do in protecting and assisting the people who use Owasco Lake.
