Be aware of distress signs on lake; thanks to deputies I am a senior citizen lady who lives on Owasco Lake. Late last summer I had the experience of having my boat break down when I was a long way from home. I put up my orange flag and waved it for a long time. Boats going by ignored me completely. I even used my emergency boat horn (in an aerosol can) to attract attention and no one came to my aid. I finally called the Sheriff and two wonderful young men came within a short time to help me. They towed my boat home and made sure I had a warm coat to cover me as it was quickly approaching dark. I felt very guilty when one of the men told me he was missing his son's third birthday party to help me out but they assured me it was all right. |
