HIT: To the hundreds of young men and women who received their high school diplomas from local school districts over the weekend.
Graduation weekend is one of the highlights of the entire year for this newspaper, as we get to cover nine major community celebrations in a three-day span.
This year's class should be proud of how far they've come, but also be determined to use what they've learned to succeed in the next phase of their lives.
MISS: To the reported brawl that took place in Owasco over the weekend.
The sheriff's office reported making several arrests in connection with the case, which appears to have stemmed from a party gone bad.
This incident is perhaps an unfortunate reminder of how certain types of crimes tend to escalate in the warmer months. Hopefully, we won't see any similar cases in the near future.
HIT: To the Auburn Police Department, for its public safety outreach program held Saturday at the Auburn Wal-Mart store.
The APD set up tables and had officers in the store to talk about all kinds of safety issues, from how to start a neighborhood watch program to bicycle and gun safety.
A big part of tackling crime in any community is prevention, and programs like these do have an impact.
HIT: To the state Department of Environmental Conservation's preliminary decision to reduce phosphorous limits for the Groton wastewater treatment plant, which discharges water into the Owasco Lake inlet.
This decision is now subject to a 30-day public comment period, and we urge stakeholders to be sure they voice their support for the move because the lower limits are a crucial piece to helping the troubled lake's water quality.
But it's also important to remember that more work remains. A good way to find out about that is to attend tonight's lake preservation at 5 p.m. at the Emerson Park Pavilion.
