I write due to being somewhat “miffed” as to how our local newspaper overlooks coverage for one of our greatest athletes to not only represent himself as a Auburn High School product but one of our most documented professional athletes of the highest caliber.

I draw attention to Greg Downing, one of Major League Lacrosse's (MLL) leading players and scorers who just played (June 29) in Rochester against the Rochester Rattlers. So much attention has been given and appropriately earned by the famous Powell family, thus overshadowing the accomplishments of Greg Downing. Greg was the sixth first round selection by the LA Riptides upon finishing an incredible lacrosse career for Fairfield University. Since, Greg is in his second year with the Riptides being one of the team's leaders in several lacrosse stat departments. Yesterdays' game (LA Riptides vs. Rochester Rattlers in Rochester) would have been nice to read as one opened this morning's Sunday edition, but, once again our coverage seems to lack a true effort to focus on what greatness the Auburn community has produced. A shame!
