Two Cents

The reason the media refuses to report all the serious crime and violence in downtown Syracuse and Auburn is because it would reflect badly on the Democrat adminstration and the city judges that just turn the criminals loose with a slap on the wrist. But the violence seems to be getting worse every day as the summer goes on.

The printed Two Cents feature took the rap for the rambling Citizens' Say chat room babble. The paper's editor "threw out the baby with the bath water!"

Obama sounds more like ex-president Carter every day. Four more years of Carter (the worst president in history) would surely doom us.

The Conservatives have just inducted Ted Kennedy in the Conservative Hall of Fame.

" Movedsouth, I don't need to be corrected on my spelling mistakes - I know the difference between their and there. Sometimes I just type it without thinking about it. I'm glad you know the difference though - that's a good sign.

As for the drug thing - what do you propose we do about alcohol, tobacco, coffee, soda, sugar, etc etc? These are THE most harmful drugs by far. And again, you miss the entire point - YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO ERADICATE DRUG USE OR ITS SUPPLY - IT JUST WILL NOT HAPPEN!!! One need not go back very far in history to see what prohibition of alcohol was like - an absolute failure in every respect and created more problems than it solved.

People have always sought mind altering substances throughout history and that will NEVER change.

Well cm, if some idiot pops a pill in your daughter's soda or whatever, without her consent and approval, they should go to jail. On the other hand, she may end up liking it.

I often think you would be more comfortable living in the old Soviet Union. "

This is true, and most people don't seem to be aware of this. The problem is that their are too many people making too much money off of this scam.

There are the drug dealers themselves ( which include factions within the US gov't), the prison industrial complex, trial lawyers, and police all making money off of what is an affront to our civil liberties, and does nothing significant to stem the supply of drugs. And of course the politicians love it so they can act like they are "tough" on crime, which is a complete insult. "

Where I live we have a child nearly every 2 wks drown because of "ignorant pool owners"
Seriously last year we had a family that lost their 2nd child in THEIR pool-child #1 drowned 2006 and almost to the date child #2 in 2007.Both kids under the age of 3.
I simply didn't understand their stupidity--I wanted to drive to their house and destroy their pool because they shouldn't own one!!
WE have harsh laws on owning pools. ALL pools must be fenced & have a self-closing gate.
I didn't leave the pool store without a pool alarm (100.00 but we dealt and got ours for free),
I added hook & clasp (79cent) locks to the TOP of my door,
I also have door alarms (4pack for 10.00)--which can be placed on gate too.

of course accidents can still happen in the pool--but at my house it wont be from neglect=drowning of a wandering toddler. "

WE here are talking about illegal drugs, like pot,crack,meth,date-rape drug--the ILLEGAL kinds.
WOULD I want them on the local pharmacy shelf--NO NO NO! NOT EVER!

are they out there -YES-especially in about 50% of Auburn's houses. Most likely 25% in my area too.
WILL they ever go away --NEVER-but with better laws, neighbors, police, judges they can be slowed down.
If people would get involved Auburn could get down to 25% or less.
If the good citizens keep ignoring this Auburn in about 5-10 yrs will be like Syracuse/Rochester ..
YOu live there --DO YOU WANT THAT??

cpiazza_2002 IS RIGHT--the officials are too buddy buddy--they dont seperate personal from business. They are cozy in their lifestyles--and my opinion is they could care less about the town they live in.

Beacuse the Judge golfs with the chief of police and the top three lawyers also golf with the judges and chief of police it causes troubles in the long run. Here is a perfect example. I live in the Herman school area. I made a complaint numerous times in regards to my neighbor and his in gound pool that is lacking fencing. The law requires for there to be a fence around the pool with a locking latch. NO one has made this resident place a latch on his fence and update his fence if i want to take a free dip in his pool I can. He is a prison gaurd and his father is a judge. If this were me guess what I would be slaped with a nasty fine. Him nope he gets nothing. and I have made phone call after phone call after phone call to the city.

I am now herrassed by the PD, when driving the other day I was pulled over on Grant Ave for doing 37 in a 35 Really come on 2 miles over the posted speed limit. The officer had issued a ticket and a court date that I need to appear by person.

NATURE: your words on these 2 posts are of double-standards. You can say what you see in Auburn BUT I am insulting the town for what I see in 2 wk visit.

From what I am reading in most posts here--CRIME is up in Auburn, drugs are in every neighborhood, and it is who you know that frees you from jail time. Something that I saw many years ago!!

personally I dont want the next step in Auburn to be drive-by shootings and city officials shouldn't want that either, but what is being about the city as it is now???

Where I live--background checks/rental history on all renters is a given!

That's the first rule of thumb that needs to be changed in Auburn, these landlords need to be more accountable for who they rent to!! Start pressuring the City to make this happen.

When you see someone dealing call APD a dozen times! get APD out of the office and on the streets! When they are NOT in a timely manner-call city officials a dozen times! use your cell phones as videos and catch the action of these dealers!

When judges slap hands of the druggies--call city officials a dozen more times!

GET INVOLVED!!! "

A person is usually snagged for drugs by an informant and an officer of the FLDTF whom looks like a regular joe. Once a person is arrested because of solid presented evidence, a case is built by detectives and presented to the DA. Now it is out of the accusers hands and also the police - there is no influence whatsoever for the case to be tampered with, there are just too many people/depts involved. The DA then has to present to a grand jury who then decides if a case warrants further review or its thrown out and the accused is then as free as they were b4 the arrest. BUT druggies can spot an APD a mile away. Maybe small towns should switch drug enforcement officers for a couple of weeks--so newbies cannot be spotted.

FG I think APD would be quick to weed out innocents just by running their names and seeing if they have a record. It doesnt prove them totally innocent but gives an idea of whether to look closer faster.

they also attack her boys (which was sad) more than once-to show who was in charge.

Once the word is out that APD has so-so and so-so doesn't spend one day in jail its pretty clear if you are in close contact with so-so you best clean up the operation/or move it, until things cool down. The druggies don't want to lose their income.

3. most likely get a "job promotion" in the operation to make the big bucks himself!
4. left to roam the streets to recruit/sell more!

I am NOT saying APD isnt working--BUT APD is also SLOW-I know this first hand since I dealt with them on my sis, who was dealing, it took over a year-when she did get caught she turned over names then cryed boohoo-the judge slapped her hands, I never saw ANY of the names arrested..2 months later she was back to dealing.
It was a waste of my time to turn her in/make statements/aid in catching her, NONE of the above helped her 3 kids who suffered with a druggie mom! "

" CM, what stopspouting is saying is not that they are trying to catch big or little - all count because small fry are used to catch big fry - even here in lil' ol' Auburn. The FL drug task force has to have solid evidence b4 a case can go b4 a jury. The drug test/sample is generally done in a vehicle to determine that it c/b contraband. The real lab is WAY behind but has results b4 a case goes to pettitt jury. When the case is ready for presentation, just like a DWI case here in NYS - its in the bag 100%. Why they even bother with a grand jury is only because of constitutional rights because that team is excellent and very professional in what they do. There is WAY more going on behind the scenes here than what people actually c or can comprehend. Our police force is really good and am happy our tax dollars are spent wisely there. "

Two conservation groups have asked the federal government to impose new restrictions on oil and gas development in the West to protect the greater sage grouse, a popular game bird on the decline.
Scientists contend sage grouse breeding areas are suffering in the face of accelerating oil and gas exploration in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Utah and other Western states.

Unless drilling is slowed, Belinda said the chicken-sized grouse could end up on the endangered species list. That could shut down public hunting for the bird and prompt restrictions on residential development and agriculture.

DO YOU NOT "LOVE" the LAST SENTENCE?
How about stopping public hunting for the bird first???????? "

I think this constant arguement of "waiting to catch the big drug dealers" is total BS!
what is wrong with nabbing the little guys and taking away the small suppliers?
While waiting 2-3 yrs for the BIG GUY how many more kids are recuited or begin taking drugs?
The BIG GUYS are NOT in Auburn, they are most likely safe in another country.
They send their guro's by boats, that meet a sellers,in boats, in the dark of night, Those sellers drive/distribute to smaller guys in your state who have recruited teens/adults to sell for them.

By cutting off the small guys, slowing the recruiting, lessens the areas drugs supplies. Frequent check points at entering Auburn locations with drug-sniffing dogs would also slow the process of them entering the city.

Will the supply ever end? Probably NOT but it can be curbed alot more than it is! "

I don't think anyone is trying to hide the POSITIVE fact that we should indeed be putting more money into safe alternative sources for energy -- what's the problem? "

" CVN, it seems no matter where one is the conversation is OIL.
Correct even if we drill, there are no tankers to drill with for 5-7 yrs, then another 2-3yrs for it to become fully operational. It is a mute point for US today but 10yrs from now MAYBE better.

Everyone is on the "fad" for solar & wind which will increase costs to add them (supply & demand) though they are seemingly the semi-immediate answer.
Especially for home-owners a great investment.
Probably a good value for larger companies too, yet it will costs US in higher prices until it pays off in the years to come.

Just having this conversation with 23yr old son-since it again is the main topic at his workplace
(he knowing nothing and mom keeping an eye on it all)
After I stated all the above, I added HYbrids have been proven to be about 10-15 miles extra vs. the SUV's. Next year at this time, Hybrids will be at enormous costs vs, the SUV. BUT what one might save a few dollars on gas --it will continue to raise costs on CORN & SOY which is in nearly every product we buy! Adding, the SEMI's delivering will NOT have cheaper fuel-so expect even higher food prices.
Very few can SAVE dollars now, how will they afford any type of hybrid/solar/wind in the coming year?

REALITY=NO immediate relief!!!

THE ONLY way to curb/stop this insanity of gas prices is to DEMAND that we lower/stop our EXPORT of oil right now!!!
While trying to find/utilize other sources for the future. "

" Hey Chris, the Associated Press thinks that new oil fields can be brought to market in less time than 10 years, the usual number eco-whiners use to justify not drilling anywhere new (and before anyone whines about it being on "Faux News", it's an AP story they picked up)... here's a few pertinent excerpts:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,373452,00.html

"But what happens over the next year at Khurais, one of Saudi Arabia's last undeveloped giant oil fields, could hold the key to what drivers will pay at the pump for years to come."

"Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil company, Aramco, is spending $10 billion to build the infrastructure to pump 1.2 million barrels of oil per day by next June from the Khurais field and its two smaller neighbors. That alone would be more than the total individual production of OPEC members Qatar, Indonesia and Ecuador."

"The project forms the centerpiece of the Saudi plan to increase the total amount of oil it can produce to 12.5 million barrels per day by the end of 2009 -- up from a little more than 11 million barrels per day now."

So it's impossible to bring oil to the market in less than 10 years, but the Saudis can do it in one? Something's fishy here. Either the Saudis have technology we don't (doubt it), or somebody is fibbing about the time it takes to bring oil to the market in order to put people off the idea, because they have an ulterior motive(more likely scenario). "

Calling the area a mini-hood has nothing to do with racism-it is what it is!

Who do I think is the causes for higher crime?
1. the judges-giving too many slaps, not enough jail.
2. APD not able to watch more closer.
3. The neighbors afraid to make a call-in fear of retailiation.
4. LANDLORDS for only caring about their monthly homesite(GOV) check and NOT caring about the quality of the neighborhood.

How many recent arrests have been Rochester people? ALOT!
WHY?? because Auburn is an easy target, low rents, no background checks by landlords, less police force, and judges saying "I understand boo-hoo, go home and see ya next month" "

Saw this on the web, thought is hit the nail on the head:
Dems keep whinning that any additional drilling offshore or in ANWR wouldn't yield any oil for a number of years. Instead, they want to invest in unproven technologies such as electric cars and solar and wind which will cost significantly more, require a massive overhaul of supporting infrastructure and...wait for it...won't yield any results for even more years if ever. Yet, nobody points out this obvious yet inconvenient truth.

I think the point here is not how much crime compared to other places, but how much crime has increased over crime here in the past -- an indicator of a worsening situation.

Again, I don't have the numbers, but any other comparisons are apples and oranges and not terribly relevant. "

It gave me a whole new appreciation of how diligent and hardworking our law enforcement is and why I support them 110%. For me, budgets s/b raised for the cops and lowered for firefighters. Summer seems worse because the kids have boredom going on now that school is out. Around the age 14 seems to be the worse and I feel for the police having to deal with these potential hoodlums. Should we not be concerned until someone is being gunned down on a weekly basis? Daily basis? It's okay if there are a few drug arrests? Pedophiles in your neighborhood? Only one or two burglaries instead of 7 or 8? What makes is "bad"? Neighborhoods are totally deteriorating because of dirtbag people who are too busy selling drugs to care about their property or their children. There are a lot of good people in Auburn, but they are unfortunately overshadowed by the dirtbags--some of who have originated here, others who move here to be with their criminals who are incarcerated at Auburn prison.
