Voters were right to reject Auburn school budget

Monday, June 30, 2008 11:34 AM EDT

I wrote this letter to say thank you to all the taxpayers who voted against the Auburn Enlarged City School District budget. I hope now that the school board will awaken to the fact that taxpayers' pockets are not bottomless. They cannot afford or want constant increases in the school budget.
The school administration has had their fiscal hands slapped, which is I feel is long overdue. I know some of the education staff will be crying in their martinis at the country club over this. However, they will start facing reality - no more overstaffed administration (cut it); endless salary increases for dubious scholastic performance. Eliminate questionable “improvements” - i.e., artificial turf.

Again, I say thanks to the voters who have expressed common sense in their votes.

" The biggest mistake they made was the arrogance of running the same budget through twice. If they made a good faith effort to reduce the amount of the budget they may have had a chance for passage. "

" Well said sir! Lets hope the board of education and JD Pabis hears you as well. "
