With June comes the sweet smell of lavender in bloom. And at Ol'Factory Farms visitors can pick lavender straight from the field.
Ol'Factory's Lavender Festival also will offer craft vendors, a lavender tea room, a lavender soap and gift shop, informational speakers, food, a picnic area and more.
Ol'Factory Soaps and Scents in Red Creek makes handmade soaps using the old-fashioned way referred to as the “cold process” method, and the farm uses pure olive, palm and coconut oils, according to its Web site.
“Nothing compares to the rich, clean scent of lavender,” claims the company, which says a lot coming from a company whose name is a play on an adjective pertaining to the sense of smell.
This weekend, festival goers will have a chance to learn all about the different uses of the fragrant, purple herb. Saturday and Sunday are chock-full of demonstrations and entertainment.
Featured speakers include Gloria Critchfield, who will discuss how to make herbal salves; Arleen Oliver, director of the Buckland House in Brighton, who will discuss growing lavender and herbs and their medicinal uses; Kevin McMaster, sous chef at the 1060 Restaurant, who will speak about cooking with lavender and drying culinary herbs; Amber Gilbo, licensed massage therapist, who will give a demonstration; and master gardner Jane Irvin.
Festival entertainment will include “Wandering Musical Minstrels” by Merry Mischief.
