These are exciting times at The Citizen, both in the newsroom and throughout the company.
As most people know by now, we're busy this summer getting ready to convert our publication schedule for early-morning delivery seven days a week, which starts Aug. 11.
But that's hardly the only change taking place. One of our most dynamic products continues to be our Web site, www.auburnpub.com, where we're continuing to add new features and services. Here are just a few of the more recent upgrades to the site, which has seen tremendous growth since we launched our major redesign in January:
€ Just in time for high school graduation weekend, we've launched an offshoot of our popular Your Photos section of the site, which allows users to post their own photos for all to see. We've established a space for people to post their favorite graduation photos.
I'm sure already there are plenty of readers out there with memory cards filled with images from last night's ceremonies. Head on over to auburnpub.com/graduation and upload them for the rest of us to see.
€ In the blog category, Kristin Kowaleski-Wolford, our Doubledays beat reporter, has started a blog called Inside the Dugout. This will be a great source for all Doubledays fans looking for some insider information and insights as the team attempts to defend its New York-Penn League championship. Kristin, now in her third season covering this team, has produced great coverage for print readers, and now she's getting an outlet to expand that effort. Head to auburnpub.com/blogs to see Inside the Dugout and all the other blogs.
€ The sports department has also started a couple of other cool new features.
Earlier this month, they debuted the first Athlete of Month video story. They'll be selecting a new athlete who will be featured in both the paper and online roughly around the first Monday of each month. These will be athletes who distinguish themselves at all levels, from youth sports leagues to high school competition to professional baseball. Feel free to contact the sports department at citizensports@lee.net or at 253-5311 ext. 258 to offer some suggestions.
The sports staff is also putting together an online version of the popular all-star pages that have been running over the past week. This is a great tool to browse through all-stars in a variety of sports, not just in the sport that happens to be featured in the print product on a given day. You can check this presentation out auburnpub.com/allstars.
Executive editor Jeremy Boyer's columns appear Saturdays in The Citizen and he can be reached at 253-5311 ext. 231 or jeremy.boyer@lee.net

I would start by making it user-friendly, adding real news, putting the right photo with the correct story... I guess I would have alot of places to start. "

These things are all nice, but how about some real reporting and a workable forum to go with it? "
