The man reported missing from the Skaneateles area on Wednesday night contacted his family Thursday afternoon and is doing fine, state police said.
Michael J. Murray, 46, of Skaneateles, called from a pay phone in New Jersey, and he reported he was on his way home. State police said Murray was experiencing some personal problems and said he just needed to get away.
Authorities had been searching for him after his boat was found idling late Wednesday night in the Skaneateles Country Club marina. The boat was found unoccupied at 10 p.m. Police said Murray does not remember leaving the boat running, though. He was last seen a couple of hours earlier operating the boat.
The Skaneateles Fire Department Dive team conducted an overnight search. A ground search also took place.
Murray's vehicle, a green 2005 Toyota Corolla, was also missing, state police said.
