A dredging project for Little Sodus Bay Harbor could be getting some federal help.
The House Committee on Appropriations has included $627,000 for the Fair Haven project in its Financial Services; Commerce, Justice, Science; and Energy and Water Appropriations bills for the 2008 federal fiscal year, U.S. Rep. James Walsh announced Friday. Walsh had requested the funding.
"New Yorkers pay billions more in federal taxes than they see in return in federal spending," said Walsh in a press release. "During my time in Congress, I have made it a priority to aggressively redress that outflow of money and worked hard to be in a position to do so. These dollars coming back to New York make a difference in communities in ways that federal programs can't or won't.”
The funds would go to the Army Corps of Engineers Operation and Maintenance budget for backlog dredging of the harbor.
