Cato man pleads not guilty in ID theft case

A local man accused of posing as a member of the Cayuga County District Attorney's Office while in the Cayuga County Jail pleaded not guilty in Cayuga County Court Thursday to 11 identity theft-related charges stemming from two seperate incidents.
Eduardo Camacho. or "Eddie Cruz," 34, of 10669 Jordan Road, Cato, pleaded not guilty after he was indicted on forgery, four counts of possession of a forged instrument, identity theft and conspiracy, all felonies, and to the misdemeanor crimes of criminal mischief, criminal impersonation of a public official, conspiracy and unlawful possession of personal information.

Camacho and two codefendants, Jessi L. Vasquez, 19, Joshua M. Abrams, 20, both of 656 School St., Skaneateles Falls, are accused of posing as a member of the district attorney's office and calling county residents to gather their personal information in an attempt to raise $5,000 for Camacho's bail in March.

Camacho was already in jail fighting charges from the possession of a stolen credit card in February 2007.
