In pain, Woods gets inventive at U.S. Open

Tiger Woods at the United States Open - it sure did peak everyone's curiosity, golfers and non-golfers alike.
The fact that Woods is coming off knee surgery and played a great-to-heroic round on Saturday to take a one stroke lead is amazing.

He started his fourth round in a not-too-graceful manner and lost the lead in about 20 minutes.

It was immediately clear that his injury was taking a toll on his golf game. Fortunately, he was able to overcome it to win the U.S. Open.

As a matter of fact, there has been a lot of talk about injuries and golf lately. In Tiger's case, he couldn't seem to get his body moving in the proper way and was unable to get the right sequence of moves available to him to hit his normal shot.

He was favoring his injured left knee.

The modern golf swing, it seems, has been the mother of invention.

Golf injuries are becoming more prevalent as we make the effort to use contemporary equipment to hit the ball farther and farther and swing faster and faster.

As someone who is no stranger to inventing golf swings to fit the physical tools available, the trick is to find a move that is comfortable and that takes the strain and pain and stress off the injured body part. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you just cannot seem to make it work.

It is over time a trial and error procedure, that if you stick to it long enough, will yield great results.

Not many of us can swing like today's tour players, but we are all capable of inventing or discovering a way to personally beat our own physical limitations.

Charlie Stebbins had a hole-in-one at Dutch Hollow this past Sunday while playing in the annual Father-Child Father's Day event.

Charlie aced the 16th hole, a par 3 that was playing 195 yards from the white tees.

Charlie used a Taylor Made 3-wood and a Titleist Solo golf ball.

“The ball hit about 30 yards short of the green and rolled up by the flag, then we couldn't see it.” Stebbins said. “We went up to the green and couldn't find my ball, so my son Ty went over and looked in the hole and there it was. I can't believe it.”

Witnesses to the shot were Dave and Luke Petrosino.

Three keys for pure iron shots according to Annika Sorenstam - check ball position, keep your right arm fairly straight on the takeaway to help her achieve a good shoulder turn, and make good iron contact.
