A two-car accident Sunday afternoon on Route 481, north of the Great Northern Mall in Clay, took the life of a Sterling man and seriously injured his wife, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office said.
Jack Baker, 54, died when the Silverado pick up truck he was driving was clipped by a Chevy Cavalier driven by James Sada, 85.
Witnesses told deputies that both cars were traveling North on Route 481, when Sada apparently lost control of his car, left the roadway drove onto the shoulder and overcompensated. He crossed back into his lane and proceeded to travel into the right lane, where he made contact with the right rear tire of Baker's truck, which started both cars spinning out of control with Baker's car rolling several times, landing upside down in the median.
Baker was pronounced dead at the scene, and his wife, Deborah Somers-Baker, was taken to University Hospital . Deborah was listed in critical condition Monday morning.
Sada was not injured in the accident.
Several witnesses were interviewed and an accident reconstruction team will determine the cause of the accident. No tickets have been issued at this time.
The town of Clay Police also responded to the accident. All traffic between Phoenix and Route 31 on Route 481 was closed down while the accident was being investigated.
