The first Auburn school budget vote the people did understand, and with the second budget vote I think even the school board understands.

The media is working very hard for Barack and McCain because they are both very dangerous to this country.

I'm proud of the citizens of Auburn for not being bullied by liberal Lansford.

The more we learn about the $13,000 robbery in the treasurer's office, the more we realize Mr. Orman is not qualified to be our county treasurer.

How much did it cost the taxpayers to tell the district superintendent and the board that "No" meant "No!" on the budget? They were the ones who were "confused."

I heard that Richard Hanna, who calls himself a Republican, is just as left-wing as anybody around. I think he's to the left of John Kerry, Jeff Alberici, Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy, you name 'em, this guy's to the left of them.

" Change for change sake could just as easily be change for the worse. I have been finding it odd all along that so many politicians harp on the term "Change" as that in an of itself were desired. People desire change FOR THE BETTER, not just change. In fact, most people prefer not to have to change -- things have to be lousy to have so many people wanting change so badly:

"...all experience hath shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing forms to which they are accustomed."

(From our Declaration of Independence; this bit is followed by the still-true part about the "long train of abuses and usurpations" -- it is not only our right but our duty to throw off such Government). "

We all want things to change-whether it be gas prices, foos costs, the economy, foreclosures on homes, the environment, schooling children, ect..
BUT to BELIEVE that ONE person can do it is utterly ridiculas! Obama cannot change anything anymore than the Pres we have.

Our lives are entangled in the 535 (congress/senate) and since they are NOT GOING AWAY anytime soon its a foolish ideal to think "change" is coming in NOVEMBER!! "

" cm, I'll be honest with you--I didn't watch the video, I don't need to see that i order to know that it exists. I tend to abhor the sadistic imagery available on the web. Perhaps I don't want to be desensitized to it, like much of today's younger generations?
Perhaps you shouldn't let yourself be so affected by such graphic violence which would understandably prejudice you against all Muslims.
The fact is, these type of mutilations occur in MANY places in the world--Sudan Ethiopia, against innocent people, by other thugs and terrorists--MANY or most of them inspired by some sort of religion or the other. It is a little bit disingenuous to rail against this type of atrocity against only Americans when it happens all over the world, and yet we turn our faces the other way because, in all honesty, there's "nothing in it" for us--one of the reasons why we're seen as being so hypocritical by much of the outside world.
I assert again, that torturing others--no matter WHAT their "crimes" or imagined knowledge--does nothing but further endanger our troops and Americans everywhere.
Just think about THIS, cm--in a situation like a beheading, it is plainly the scum who are responsible for their individual actions and decisions to commit this type of crime--and so are THEY accountable BY THEMSELVES.
But in accepting and condoning a policy of Torture, THE GOVERNMENT AND ITS CITIZENS WHO ARE PERCIEVED TO BE OF, AND INSUPPPORT OF, THAT GOVERNEMNET ARE NOW RIGHTFULLY SEEN AS BEING "GUILTY", "

" Does anybody know what’s going on with the city brush/grass pickup? I put out 2 small bags of grass clippings for 2 weeks in a row and it was not picked up. I first put it in a trash can, then small clear bags; still it was not picked up. Update: I called the refuse pickup department and this is what they said. The brush /grass clippings will be picked up every 2 months and the only thing we can do it we want to get rid of it now is to go to the dump pay 20.00 for a sticker and dispose of it for free. I wonder if this is a taxpayer/city manager trickery issue.
City hall probably thinks 2 months is too long to wait for most homeowners to wait “I am one of them” to get rid of the brush, because it starts to stink, it’s in the way, etc. The home owner then goes to the dump using their own transportation and gas, pays the 20.00 and gets rid of it. Cons for the taxpayer paying another 20.00 on top of our outrageous taxes, taking it to the dump at our expense. Pro’s for the city, gets an extra 20.00 from us and doesn’t have to pick it up at our residence saving the city time and gas. What do you think? "

" drilling doesnt help today--along with the facts that it cant be done today without the deep sea rigs.
However we do need to do it for the future.
I hope with some better laws in place, such as forcing the oil companies to keep 75% for USA consumption and only allowed to sell the other 25% on the open market.
This would keep us from paying OPEC the high costs plus put us in competition with them.
While waiting on deep sea rigs-we need to venture into other avenues.

It would be nice if the GOV gave homeowners a low interest loan using the house as collateral for installing solar panels. With some tax breaks to aid with paying the loan back. The monies saved from using/paying less electric/gas could offset the high gasoline costs.

This could be an instant start up. Plus provide jobs. "

" I would expect then, Karl, that you read to entire bill that Bush shot down. Do you know why he shot it down? Were there items included in the bill that he could not agree with? Remember how the Dems shot down Iraq funding bills until the bills included pork for their own interests. They then resoundingly voted in favor. It really had little to do with equipping our servicepeople as much as it did act as a self serving vehicle. Now, on to my points above. Seeking out alternative fuels, making speculators play with real money, and drilling here will lower the price of oil. I know there is no shortage, but increasing the amount doestically will certainly relieve us of the burdon of having to deal with the middle east mafia. One thing I am not Karl is a blind follower. I realize that we need to evolve into a more efficient community. "

" Left, right, up, down, liberal, conservative -- just labels used to try to draw a picture of the world in black and white -- which it isn't.

I am not for drilling now -- I think the sooner we get into a "forced to do it" mode when looking for SAFE, efficient, cost-effective, renewable sources of energy the better, even though I do understand it will take some time to switch over. If we found some marvelous, safe, free, limitless source for energy and how to use it tomorrow, it would still be years before we converted to vehicles which could run on it, homes which could heat with it, etc.

But aside from that one bit, I have to say I agree with pretty much all of dd's post -- how's that for something different?!?? Especially the part about doing something to control and contain oil futures speculators. This is like having the cost of living determined by a bunch of rich, careless gamblers -- using our lives as the stakes to either win or lose more huge profits for themselves alone. "

" dd, thou art truly an ignorant prognosticator.
HOw many times do I have to tell you, or how clear do I have to make it to you--DRILLING FOR OIL IS NOT GOING TO BRING DOWN THE PRICE OF OIL!?!?
The price of oil SHOULD BE about $50-60.00 now with current production levels and supply--THERE IS NO OIL SHORTAGE!!!
This is NOT 1973, dd! DO you know that not only has US demand FALLEN recently, but that the US Petroleum Reserve is nearly full? THERE IS NO "OIL SHORTAGE"!!!
The problem is that the Oil Futures Trading Market is being BLATANTLY MANIPULATED by the speculators who work for the Investment Bankers--the same ones who did brought us the Home Mortgage Scandal. By manipulating the market--as well as pushing prices up fro EVERY commodity like corn, wheat, etc-they are making profits hand-over-fist to bail out their a$$es from the monies that they lost in that scandal!
Additionally, the Big Oil companies are simply using the opportunity to push for something they've wanted for years--to enslave the USA and double-dummies like you to Oil for generations to come.
Why do you think Bush just killed a bill to extend solar power funding? And is threatening to veto a new transportation bill which would give more money for railroad service? And when Bush can say "America is addicted to oil" 6 months ago--and then he's pushing for oil drilling in ANWAR?
Don;t you see how you are falling right into the mentality-trap that they want you in? They WANT you to think that you need oil like blood--even as they lobby to kill every other bill and means to get us OFF oil--THAT'S WHERE THE REAL SOLUTION LIES!
WAKE UP, DOUBLE-BUMB!!!!!!!!! "

dd wrote on Jun 21, 2008 9:45 AM:

" No plans for domestic drilling will happen while the Republicans are in the White house. No new plans for domestic drilling will happen while the Democrats are in the White House. Neither party wants the OTHER to be responsible for lowering the price of oil. PRIDE--the downfall of so many. So, there you have it--politicians are making us poor AGAIN. If we make an effort NOW to commit to domestic production increases (drilling), seek out widespread alternatives to fossil fuels (nuclear, solar etc.)and make the dirtbags who invest in futures put up cold hard cash, the price of oil will come down INSTANTLY. I am sure Karl and AJ will instantly come on and tell me how wrong I am (typical), but what I typed above makes sense. I don't care who ends up right or wrong, but I for one am tired of working until June to pay taxes, and on top of it watching another 25% of my take home disappear in vehicle and heating fuel. "

Andy B wrote on Jun 21, 2008 9:00 AM:

" Oil futures are usually bought 5 years in advance. They are priced upon future forecasting, therefore drilling now could possibly make a difference. The main reason I want to drill here is that it will increase the amount of oil in domestic production. We use 20 million bpd we produce only 6 million bpd. Even with conservation and alternate energy initiative we still have a huge difference to make up.

Anyone that reads on here knows that I'm probaaly the biggest proponent of green technologies that comes on here. Producing more of our own oil, natural gas, and coal is key to the future of our economy. You can't forsake green for fossil its not an all or nothing situation. We need as much of both as we can possibly get.

Thee rest of the world is quietly laughing at us as they watch us spend money hand over fist to other countries for something (fossil fuels) that we have some of the biggest reserves in the world of.

Some day maybe 50 years from now we can say no to fossil fuel. But until then we can't hamstring ourselves. Go Boone Pickens! (If you don't know who he is then you don't read much on this subject.) "

At a friends last night-she stated another friend sending emails about signing petitons to send to the GOV about drilling--DO IT NOW thing.
The problem is a majority-think drilling just "happens" today.
The biggest factor is even if a GOV stamped approval this second there are NO deep sea rigs available to even start the job!
Followed with it will NOT help us NOW or for the next 5 years.

Also the majority do not understand how the commodity system works!
Putting a FREEZE/CAP on them WOULD help us right now!!
For they are PLAYING with monopoly money and we are PAYING with real money! "
