AHS gymnastics coach was a good role model

The former AHS gymnastics coach was, and still could be, an outstanding role model.
I would like to publicly thank Ray Berman for his four years of dedication coaching me in gymnastics from 1971-75. He was a very important figure helping me cope with this very special and difficult sport. To this day gymnastics is a key Olympic competitive sport.

Ray was a mentor to myself, many other students and current taxpayers during his 30 plus years coaching. Three years ago this program was shut down due to “lack of numbers.”

All I ever hear about is, “It's for the kids!” Well, not every kid wants or can do football, lacrosse, wrestling, soccer, etc. On that note, thanks Ray!

" A lot of this administration help is needed due to government red tape and bureaucracy. George Bush had the gaul to require a lot of this with no child left behind and he didn't provide a penny of finanacial help to administer the program. So hold the blame on the unions. Also unions will make their demands but the administration of the schools gave in to these demands. Stand firm when the union wants outlandish demands. Let them strike and replace them if you have to. "

" Unless it needs turf it won't happen. Too bad since an awful lot of kids are not built to be football players or wrestlers. Our district is a mess and it's not for the kids, it's for the unions. They will cut education & extra-curricular activities before they cut administration. Nearly every person on Thornton Ave. needs an assistant and each of them need a clerk. Running a school district is like running a business in the private sector. Some are going to lose jobs, those who remain are going to have to take on more responsibility. They are going to HAVE to pay more into benefits, accept smaller (if any) pay raises. They need to look at what is at the top and leave education and programs alone. "
