ALBANY - More than 2,500 electricity customers were without power after severe thunderstorms rolled through eastern New York, knocking down trees and power lines and pelting some areas with popcorn-size hail.
Most of the outages were in Albany County. Severe thunderstorm warnings were up around the state, with forecasters saying winds could top 60 mph and hail as big as nickels could fall.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for northern Sullivan County early Monday evening, including Livingston Manor. Weather Service radar was indicating a tornado had formed.
Hail fell in the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse areas as well as the Hudson Valley.
