I wonder how many dollars H. R. Clinton collected to be a senator while on her presidential quest? If the answer is that her office went with her, then how much did that cost taxpayers?
Since 9/11/2001, I can't think of a single thing the Democrats have done to help the war on terrorism in this world, or the war against the Muslims. Everything they've done is to help the enemy.
The city and county are practically broke, but we have money to throw away on a feasibility study to build a new firehouse
Quill, Brower and McNabb think that everybody in Auburn is a Democrat and doesn't work for a living, so they can have the council meetings at any time, for people to go to. But they forget that some of these people are Conservatives and Republicans and work for a living and can only attend meetings at night.
First it was parking meter money, now it's property tax money. When are the incompetents running our municipal offices going to get their act together?

Karl, I think you are putting too much hope in Obama - have you seen is 'Senior Working Group on National Security'?
Not exactly inspiring. Kinda like same horse, different color, though agreeably with a better temperament than the current crop of fascists in power. The imperialistic goals are largely the same, only the tactics will change to a large degree.
The more I read about Obama the less I like him. Let's face it, he wouldn't have been trotted out or allowed to get this far in the first place if he was not hugely sympathetic to corporate interests and the status quo - that's how the game works, now moreso than ever. The whole thing is a "Grand Illusion".
I hope I'm wrong, and I'll be happy if Obama lives up to even a quarter of his rhetoric, and I'll gladly take him over McSame. But I refuse to be deluded by what will likely turn out to be false hope. The messiah he aint!
BTW, did you ever check out the link to the two short video clips I mentioned in yesterday's two cents? You MUST watch them. They should scare the pants off anyone with at least half a brain. "

Dems have had the past few years to bring gas prices down like they promised they would, but prices keep rising higher and higher. Obviously what they're doing isn't working. And the old standby of blaming one person, our current president, for gas prices going up so high is illogical and frankly, I think it's narrowminded. And thinking one other person, Obama, can magically "get" these greedy oil companies and drive gas prices down, is being even more narrowminded.
Obama is in two words, inexperienced and naive. If he's elected, he'll be an even worse puppet of worse people pulling his strings. If you don't believe me, ask him why he hasn't given back campaign donations from people aligned with Islamic terrorist groups, or former Iraqi officials under Saddam who are calling for increased violence in Iraq. Pretty fishy if you ask me. "

Queenie, Chris, and you other "chicken littles"--if you don't see how you and me and all of us are being played for fools, you're blind!
Guess what?!--just like Cheney and Rumsfeld wanted to get into Iraq for at least 15 years before this war, so have the Oil companies wanted to drill offshore and in ANWAR--and just like 9/11 was the perfectly manufactured excuse to go make Ol' Scowl's wildest dreams come true, so is this phony "price crisis" being manufactured to provoke the conversation about removing ALL restrictions to the Oil Companies' greed and pillaging of sensitive environmental sites--WHAT AN ABSOLUTE SCAM AND SHAM!!!!!!!

NONE of them will help us today.
However it may put a scare into OPEC seeing that we are planning to depend more on ourselves than them. We are a major contributors to their wallets.
Without USA they still have China and others but we would still put a huge dent in their riches.
personally I dont care if people own hummers or whatever vehicle IF they can afford to so be it..
In fact I just saw the RED Cross on the news drive off with a loaded HUMMER to the flood zone areas. Sometimes Hummers are needed to get to places the average vehicle cant get too.
I know our local news stations also own them for crews to get the stories in weather-torned areas.
Todays news is: what will the north do for winter heating bills and how many might die from the cold.
No one is mentioning the south having high gas/electric bills right NOW due to the heat, and how many might die today/tomorrow.
Sadly the majority of us will suffer these high costs with no relief in site.
AND the 536 need to begin something somewhere or better yet,
everything everywhere!!! "

LMFAO--where DO you come up with this stuff? Priceless!
For your information, DrillQueen, the Oil companies--Exxon Mobil in particular--just recently posted the LARGEST PROFIT IN HISTORY of ANY company, anywhere, EVER!.
Yeah---that's the same company that charges .10 to .13 cents more than any other gas station in town,

It's so funny--you guys on here yapping about drilling offshore must be on a direct line to the Conservative spin doctors or The White House, I swear! What is there--a big "push" now to "strike while the iron is hot"? To "use" the high oil prices to get what the Oil Companies have wanted for decades? To drill offshore and in environmentally-sensitive areas?
Here's my take on this---the Oil Companies have told their speculators to bid up the price of Oil cuz they know that it's now or never--once Bush is out of office, they're gonna get hit hard. So now, tomorrow, the President will go before Congress and lobby for his Big Oil buddies to get their greedy paws on the alleged oil deposits in the places they want.
Which is EXACTLY what I said was going to happen oh....6 months ago? Once again, a Liberal was correct, and saw through Bush and his Oil cronies.
Here's the problem---it does NOTHING to reduce or change America's dependency on oil, nor force people to drive smaller cars/vehicles and think about reducing use and demand.
I actually think this price scare was a GOOD thing--hey, look--it killed the Hummer! YAYYYY!!!!! And it's changed people's driving habits and outlook on what/what not to drive. "

It reminds me of older folks who think they're too old to go back to college. "Two or four years is a long time, I'm too old". Well, in two or four years, you'll be two or four years older anyway, might as well go for it. We might not be able to use the oil from ANWR for 10 years (I don't quite understand this argument because nobody has ever given an explanation why), but when we need it in 10 years, we'll have it. It's STUPID not to drill for it NOW. Alternative fuels are not a completely viable solution right now, but we should keep working on them while we're drilling for our own oil to meet current needs. It's a no-brainer. "

Honda has begun commercial production of the FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, a car we've been writing about for a few years (see links at the end). We're not quite talking about mass production yet: Only a few dozens at first, and about 200 units within a year, but it's still a milestone for Honda and hydrogen-powered cars.
http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/06/honda-fcx-clarity-fuel-cell-hydrogen-car-leases.php
There are still a lot of hurdles with hyrdogen though it is promising.
I recall some time ago that an inventor (I think in France) came up with an engine which works off of compressed air, which was highly efficient and dirt cheap to own and operate. I don't remember the name of it, but I'll see if I can't dig up the info on it. "

The most hopeful thing I've heard about was this article I saw a few months ago about a Japanese company (I think it was Nissan) which is working to develope a home unit to produce free hydrogen from water. The device would have a solar panel that converts water to hydrogen all day long and only draws (plug in) electricty when there isn't enough solar. You then fill up your car at home from the device. I'm not sure how far along this is, but this is a great idea. Figures it's a Japanese company developing it, I'm sure big energy companies in the USA would fight this tooth and nail as it would make them mostly absolete. "

The thing of it is, there is no scarcity of energy - our planet is full of it, and it cannot be created or destroyed - it merely changes form. The sun beats it down on us every day, far more than we'd ever need. The problem seems to be with the corporate interests wanting to dominate the energy market. We need decentralized energy sources in order to put these monstrosities out of power and clean up our environment. Abundant, and incredibly cheap energy is a very real possibility, but not with our current government. "

The age of the SUV is over--Ford and GM announced the end of production runs for many of their big gas guzzlers, and the Hummer sales were DISMAL last year. (YAY!)
There's now cars coming out that run of hydrogen cells--ZERO gas required!
In my opinion, we need to wean ourselves the hell off of Oil, and find alternative sources! Drilling in ANWAR would take ten years to get the oil here, and would last for only four months at CURRENT rates--not even saying where demand would be in ten years! Face it--all these calls for drilling here isn't going to do anything long-term; it only gives Republicans a wedge to use against their hated "environmentalist-nut strawmen" "
AJ wrote on Jun 16, 2008 6:26 PM:
Our best approach would be to invest heavily conservation and in alternative fuel techology. That is NOT going to happen UNTIL we get RID of the influence of the OIL companies in government policies.
Keep in mind, that a major factor in the price of gas/oil right now is the declining value of the dollar, and bears little relation to increased consumption. "

"Next month, the Saudis will be pumping an extra half-a-million barrels of oil a day compared to last month, bringing total Saudi production to 9.7 million barrels a day, their highest ever level. But the world's biggest oil exporters are coupling the increase with an appeal to western Europe to cut fuel taxes to lower the price of petrol to consumers."
Cut the taxes and increase the production.
The Democratic plan to reduce prices at the pump:
Sue OPEC = 0 savings
7th investigation into price gouging =
0 savings
4th investigation into speculators =
0 savings
20 Billion in new taxes for oil producers = 0 savings
Halt shipments to SPR = .05 cents
Total savings with the Democrats brilliant plan: 5 cents
GOP plan to reduce the price at the pump:
Bring onshore oil online (ANWR, Oil Shale) = 0.70 to 1.60 savings
Bring deepwater oil online = 0.90 to 2.50 savings
Bring new refineries online (none built since 1976) = 0.15 to 0.45 savings
Cut earmarks to fund gas tax holiday =
0.18 savings
Halt shipments to SPR = .05 savings
Minium savings with the GOP plan = $1.98
Say the average gas price is $4.08, with the Dems you'll pay $4.03 at the pump.
With the GOP plan with gas at $4.08 you'll pay $2.10 at the pump.
Any questions? "
