This treasonous decision by the traitors on the Supreme Court is going to leave our military having to change the way they fight wars from now on. There's no sense taking prisoners, they must kill everyone they capture from now on or it's a complete waste of time and helps the enemy if they capture them.

Taxpayers and homeowners in Auburn are very grateful that they have one friend on the city council, as Matt Smith has successfully fought to remove many of these evil fees out of the new budget. Thanks again, Matt.

Mr. Orman, you have been Cayuga County treasurer for more than three years and the county legislators has given you a blank check to correct the past problems within that office. You and you alone are responsible for the $13,000 that are missing

To the city council: Who cares when you have your meetings, you, the mayor or anybody else. You're all boring and nobody cares!

We have no conservative letters, and we don't have any conservative columnists.

" AJ---why didn't you use your only stand-by comment--"you guys just don't get it." Now, look at the statistics bestowed upon you by CM--they are accurate. By and large, the government knows what they are doing with the prisoners. I know that Karl and AJ believe that the terrorists will go away, and be the good citizens we all want them to be, but I think we all know the truth. I remember the planes on 9/11. I know you two think our government set it up, and blew the buildings up. I know you guys think you know it all. Just keep one thing in mind---We aren't imagining what has happened, and what is going on. Terrorism is a growing threat. Even if we choose to leave Iraq now, global terrorism is just in the infancy stages. We will not be left alone. Our lifestyles go against everything Islam teaches. Karl, do you believe for one minute that you could walk down a street in a radical Islamic state, and not be murdered? If you say yes, then I'd love to see it. I don't believe for one minute that our invasion of Iraq had much of an impact on how the radical Islamists felt about America. I don't think Bush has anything to do with it either. Just by living our lives here in Auburn, we are infidels. The people being held in Gitmo, I am sorry to say, may be innocent, but we have to sort them out from the ones that aren't. No one has ever said that war is fair. If it were fair, the terrorist networks would never have planned and carried out an attack on a NON MILITARY target (WTC). In fact, the terrorists would not even be called terrorists, now would they? They would be just another army. "

I agree we need laws, but some laws benefit only those that put them their to begin with.
then personally we humans have our own code of law, as do cops, as do guards, as do prisoners, etc.

We are NOT the FBI/CIA we dont know what info and how far they have to look to get it at. These radical people hide/live among the mountains/in caves/under the ground--they are not like Martha Stewart-an open book. Their info takes longer to find.

IN reading this: all in WHO you are Taliban or alQaeda..
"the captives have the fundamental right to due process of law under the Fifth Amendment. A district court has since held that the "Geneva Conventions applied to the Taliban captives, but not to members of al Qaeda terrorist organization"

IN this reading: waiting for adjustments to comply....
" 500 prisoners in Guantánamo Bay, only 10 have been tried by the Guantanamo military commission, but all cases have been stayed pending the adjustments being made to comply with the Hamdi decision by the U.S. Supreme Court"

Since the beginning of the current war in Afghanistan, 775 detainees have been brought to Guantanamo, approximately 420 of which have been released without charge.
As of May 2008, approximately 270 detainees remain. More than a fifth are cleared for release but may have to wait months or years because U.S. officials are finding it increasingly difficult to persuade countries to accept them.
(WHY DONT THEY GO BACK TO THEIR OWN COUNTY?---karl the humanitarian???)

(is their country MORE dangerous than GITMO??)

On February 9, 2008, it was reported that 6 of the detainees at the Guantanamo Bay facility would be tried for conspiracy in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

What if my child were a foreign exchange student, and was crossing a plaza in some other country on a visit to a monument or something, when terrorists blew something up. Some eyewitness thought he saw my kid running away in a suspicious manner, or he looked sort of like a suspect, or was wearing the same color shirt. Next thing you know, someone "knows" my kid is the one who killed a bunch of people, and he's thrown in a prison to be interrogated, no charges brought, no notice to his family, nothing, just snapped up and held, tortured into saying anything, etc.

Now imagine you were a decent Pakastani parent, for example, with no interest in politics, but your son is studying in the United States and the scenario above happens. How could you defend our country treating any person this way -- ever? "

" cm -- The law is still the law, and it is there to protect all of us. Without the law, it's just sheer vigilantism, and then we are left in a world where we are all at the mercy of those who have the most power. Without the law there is no justice, and without justice there is no freedom.

If the case is really as clear-cut as you present, then there is reasonable evidence to make an arrest - no need to incarcerate someone without charging him or her -- just charge the person with the crime.

If it is as clear cut as you describe, then when it goes to court the person will be convicted.

A lying girlfriend's testimony can be shown to be false, or doubt cast upon her testimony given her relationship with the accused. If he were wearing gloves, there would be no residue, so that's proof of nothing. And there is my testimony, that of an upstanding citizen and eyewitness.

Does it sometimes happen that a guilty person gets off? Of course. Humans are fallible. It also happens that innocent people are convicted and have their lives destroyed when they have done no wrong. Against this we must guard above all.

But if we are to set ourselves up as civilized people interested in justice, we must defend the law. I am sure that when he entered the service, your husband took an oath to defend The Constitution. All those rights I am defending here and which you are saying we should abandon are the very rights your husband is sworn to defend.

In a world ruled by vigilantism, anyone more powerful than you could declare they "know" the truth of your "guilt" and could strip you of everything you own, throw you in prison without even telling you why, beat and torture you, persecute and murder your family, and all because they say they are right and you are wrong, but they are stronger and more powerful. And there would be no authority to whom you could appeal for justice. Every person would live in fear of being unjustly accused by someone with more power -- there would be no freedom from fear, persecution, an injustice.

If you set yourself up as a person who believes in the principles upon which this country was founded, you have no leg upon which to stand when you seek to deny the freedoms the Founding Fathers guaranteed every person as inalienable rights.

Without law, there is no justice. Without justice, there is no freedom. "

" 3 Men Convicted In Ohio In Terrorism Case

Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd said he couldn't comment on the plea agreement. But he noted it was signed the same day federal prosecutors won terrorism convictions against three Ohio men and extradited an international arms dealer to face federal charges in New York.

A federal jury in Ohio convicted Mohammad Zaki Amawi, 28, Marwan Othman El-Hindi, 45, and Wassim I. Mazloum, 27, of conspiring to commit terrorist acts against Americans overseas and other terrorism-related violations.

The three were convicted of conspiring to kill or maim U.S. military personnel serving in Iraq, and conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. Amawi and El-Hindi were also convicted of distributing information regarding the manufacture or use of explosives, according to Boyd.

International arms dealer Monzer Al Kassar, also known as Munawar and El Taous, arrived in New York on Friday from Spain on federal terrorism charges. Al Kassar faces charges of conspiring to sell millions of dollars' worth of weapons to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC - a designated foreign terrorist organization - to be used to kill Americans in Colombia, Boyd said. " A former University of South Florida student has agreed to plead guilty to a charge he provided support to terrorists when he posted an Internet video showing how to detonate a bomb with a remote-controlled toy, according to a plea agreement entered in the case Friday.

Ahmed Mohamed, an Egyptian citizen, was arrested, along with another student, Youssef Megahed, in South Carolina in August after deputies said they became suspicious of their car and then found explosive materials in the trunk. Both men were charged with transporting explosives.

Mohamed, 26, acknowledges in his plea agreement entered onto the U.S. District Court docket that he tried to help terrorists with the video he made and posted to the YouTube Web site.

The document says Mohamed told investigators he intended, with the video made in his Tampa apartment, to support attempts by terrorists to kill employees of the United States, including members of the military.

He wanted to teach "martyrdoms" and "suiciders" how to save themselves, he said, so they could continue to fight invaders, the plea agreement states. Mohamed said he considered the U.S. military and those fighting with the U.S. military in Arab countries to be invaders.
Video Described How To Best Use Toy Car

The plea agreement describes the 12-minute YouTube video, which was found on Mohamed's laptop in the car when the two men were arrested in South Carolina.

On the video, Mohamed demonstrated how a remote-control toy car could be disassembled and how the components of its chassis could be rewired and converted into a detonator for an explosive device, the agreement states.

When he finished using the car, he reassembled it and returned it to Wal-Mart for a cash credit.

On the video, Mohamed said in Arabic: "Instead of the brethren going to, to carry out martyrdom operations, no, may God bless him, he can use the explosion tools from a distance and preserve his life, God willing, the blessed and exalted, for the real battles, unless he was forced to do so," according to the agreement.

He added that the method allows bombers to make explosions from a distance of 35 to 200 meters. "In future lessons, God willing, we will show you how to make advanced circuits that can reach greater distances."

Goudie said the facts described in the plea agreement are the government's account. Mohamed's side, she said, "will come out at the time of sentencing."

Defense attorney Linda Moreno said Mohamed and his family "wanted a resolution after a long and agonizing decision." The parents, she said, "want a guarantee that their son will come out of prison. This plea is that guarantee."

AJ/KARL: I suppose this was all a dream too. Not to fret IF he gets out of prison what do you think he will do next??
Personally I dont think he will get out of prison--prisoners have their own sentencing--I know many of guards that can testify to that! "

I don't even have TV and even I know that.

And if the government is holding someone BELIEVED to have murdered Mrs. Jones' son, if they have enough evidence to charge the person, they can keep holding the person. That is not the issue. The issue is when it is NOT KNOWN for a fact, when there is NOT reasonable enough evidence to arrest, then those persons must be released. This highly reasonable policy has been in place in this country for ages and has helped cut a fair balance to prevent both holding innocent people unfairly and letting guilty people go when they shouldn't be let out.

" Double-Dumb, you are misinformed. Prisoners of war are just that--people swept up in the fog of war, and many of those in Gitmo ARE INNOCENT.
Can you show me a statement where it says that prisoners of war ARE GUILTY until proven innocent? "

" How is it that Bill Fulton got his secretary job back in the budget when we have a civil service commission, a full time clerk in the office AND a Human Resource Director sitting in her plush office with nothing to do and yet earning a big fat salary and now we need a "secretary" in the civil service office too who was rightly cut out of the budget but then put back in with a $2,000. raise!! Sounds like Quill & Joker and the good ol' boys back to work again... "

" Prisoners of war are different than US citizens held for a crime. There is a different group of standards. Can someone tell me where it was ever agreed that prisoners of war are innocent until proven guilty? ---Well well well, there is AJ again with the old stand by statement--"you just don't get it." Get what AJ? Farmers gal---the prisoners ARE the tyrants we fight. "

" My favorite from the other day: says if his parents had been Muslims, he'd be a Muslim, but since his parents raised him Christian, he's a Christian.

Now, even as a godless heathen myself, I can have respect for a Christian (or person of any religion) if they come by their religion by faith - because it's what's in their hearts and it's what they believe in, because they've thought it through, considered mind and heart both, and find they have faith.

But I can't see any substantiative difference between being Christians because your parents told you to and being brought up in a cult -- religious faith on the grounds that it's what you were told to do? What kind of flimsy faith is that?

But then it's taken a step further: Because the person is a Christian, and a follower of Christ, therefore he must support Israel against Muslim countries.

Wow! Is that a prize non-sequitur or what?

First, in general, the Jewish faith doesn't put much stock in Jesus. And isn't Passover all about celebrating the deaths of all the non-Jewish babies in the region? Nope, I can't see how being a follower of Jesus would in any logical fashion lead to supporting the Jewish State.

(Don't take my words the wrong way -- An indictment of the State of Israel and even criticism of certain aspects of the Jewish religion are NOT against Jewish persons any more than to criticize certain aspects of various flavors of the Christian religion is to say all Christians are bad people -- because they aren't, not in either case. Similarly, criticizing Israel is not a condemnation of every person living in that country any more than criticizing our own government would be the same thing).

Our blind and unconditional support of the hypocritical state of Israel is by far the largest single factor motivating Islamic extremists against the United States. If we had a truly even-handed policy towards all nations in the Middle East, if we held ALL those nations equally accountable for unacceptable behaviors, things would not be as they are. It's too late now to go back and change our own stupid mistakes, but there you are.

But to think there are people who base the decision to make such an imbalanced approach to foreign affairs, one which has led to deadlocked unresolvable opposing positions, on "what I was raised to think" rather than on either logic or faith of the heart, well, it's no wonder we are where we are. "

" What are we fighting for if not to defend the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution? We have those laws to insure justice, and in particular, "innocent until PROVEN guilty."

If we don't extend "certain inalienable rights endowed us by our Creator" to every living person, then our government is no better than the tyrants against whom we fight. "
