The Central New York Bikers Club will sponsor Cruz & Blues '08, a two-day event at the Rolling Wheels Raceway, featuring live bands, free camping, food, bonfires and a 50-mile motorcycle ride.
Besides the ride, which begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, there will be several activities, including a bikini bike wash, a bike show, a bike rodeo and an Undie 500. Some of the vendors on hand will be Illustrated Lady, Preferred Powersports, Biker Alley, Renegate Classics, ABATE of Onondaga County, ABATE of Oswego County, CMA and NY Rider Magazine.
Neil Fry, president of the club, said that the event, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday, will include several Syracuse musical performers. Proceeds from the event will go to a fund to help fallen bikers and their families.
On Friday, June 13, Rhythm Method will play at 6 p.m. Stevie Wolf and Roosevelt Dean will also entertain.
On Saturday, 5 Below will kick off the music fest at 2 p.m., while Chris Terra, Elmo Blake, Four Barrel and Phil Petroff will also play.
Rhythm Method features lead singer Jodi Cerio in a group of five, playing a variety of songs, including popular rock and dance music.
Stevie Wolf is a blues performer who is often seen at Showcase Southwest Sundays in Syracuse. Wolf comes from Mississippi via Chicago. He draws from the tradition of Chess and Stax Records with an authentic sound that captures the real blues.
Roosevelt Dean is living his dream in his second career as a blues artist, fronting his own band. After retiring following 30 years at Syracuse China, “Rosie” began to seriously perform and record the blues in Syracuse. His love of the blues sprang from growing up in the South and listening to the blues from a club nearby, where Muddy Waters, Bobby Bland and B.B. King performed. His musical interest moved from soul to R&B, and now he's immersed in the blues.
Chris Terra Band includes Chris Terra, singer, songwriter and guitar player; Mike Robarge, lead guitar, Gli Copes, bass guitar and vocal backup, Bob Holtz, drums and vocal backup. Its influences include jazz, funk, rock swing and a strong blues foundation. It is billed as a working man's blues band.
Terra formed the Blue Smoke Band back in the spring of 2005 and released his first CD, “Whiskey Hill,” in May 2006. He followed with “The Blues Is Driven” in October 2007 and also recorded live from The Redhouse with station TK99. Terra is writing the music for his next CD, “Diesel.”
Four Barrel plays '70s rock, while Phil Petroff is a guitarist who has played with the famed blues band Nighthawks and with Steve Warge. Petroff's style covers the gamut of the blues. Now playing with his own band, Natural Fact, Petroff has recently performed at the state fairgrounds and at Sylvan Beach, along with bass player Mike Schoeffter and drummer Lenny Milano. Petroff is working on an upcoming CD, “Better Late Than Never,” which has taken three years to complete.
