The Cayuga County Sheriff's office is asking for the public's help finding information regarding the theft of more than $13,000 from the Cayuga County Treasurer's Office.
In October 2007, County Treasurer James Orman told sheriff's deputies that his office had discovered tax collection money was missing. The thefts occurred during the time public cash payments were kept in the treasurer's office prior to being deposited.

The sheriff's office is investigating the missing money.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lt. Joseph Weeks at 253-3902.

" If this was reported to the sheriffs in October 2007 -- why is it just coming out now? "

" You just need to dissolve county government. It is a duplication of services and costs taxpayers too much. The towns and cities can handle their own government. The county should only be the jail and the sherrifs dept. The rest can go. The college can be run by a board with representatives from every town and city in the county. "

" Thefts! I think someone came in weekly and took the money! WHERE DO YOU THINK THE MONEY WENT? 10/07, until now. "

" AUBURN SEEMS TO HAVE SOME REAL MONEY ISSUES/ WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE. I WONDER , HAVE AN AUDIT FOR TEN YEARS SOUNDS GOOD TO ME,INCLUDE THE CHILD SUPPORT UNIT ON THAT ONE/ THEY TAKE MONEY AND DON'T EVEN HAVE RECORD OF IT. THE REAL PICTURE, YOU FIGURE IT OUT. "

" Why did the treasurer's office leave that kind of money unlocked?
Maybe they need to be looking closer at employees?
maybe they need to do full audit for the past 10yrs too. "
