The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of upstate New York through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The watch area includes all of Cayuga County, which was hit late Tuesday morning by a wave of fast-moving thunderstorms. More storms are possible throughout the day. Some nickel- and dime-sized hail was reported at the north end of Cross Lake, according to the Cayuga County Emergency Management Office.
No significant damage reports have come as of 11:45 p.m.
A tornado watch means conditions could lead to a tornado. People should continue monitoring weather reports in case a tornado warning is issued.
If a tornado is spotted, people should move to a safe place in a sturdy structure, such as a basement or interior room, the NWS advises.
