HIT: To National Cancer Survivors Day's “Celebration of Life.” For 10 years, there has been a local event held to celebrate those who are living with and beating cancer.
Several dozen people came to the Throop Firehouse on Sunday for a party. The party is a great way to show cancer patients that they are not alone and there is hope in defeating a horrible disease. Just over the past two decades, there are more people who are cancer survivors, giving hope, an important weapon in a winnable battle.
MISS: To the end of Wounded Healers' monthly meetings in Cayuga County after almost two decades. The meetings helped people who were grieving the loss of a family member or close friend.
The group's leaders drove all the way from Horseheads, a three-hour round trip from Auburn. The distance has caught up after all these years. Also, the deaths of two of the group's Auburn facilitators was a factor in the decision.
It was a tough decision for Wounded Healers and while there are other options available for those who need someone to talk to about a loved one's passing, this is a difficult loss for the community.
HIT: To the Cayuga Home for Children's new low elements adventure course.
The course was dedicated on Tuesday and is a great way for the center's residents to exercise as well as use their minds to work on their reasoning and team building skills.
The cost of the course was paid for by Parker's Grille and Tap House. It is always good to see a local business make an important contribution to the community.
HIT: To the start of another season at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse at Emerson Park. It's a sure sign that summer is around the corner when the MGR Playhouse opens its doors for a new season of quality live performances.
Cayuga County residents know and appreciate how fortunate we are to have theater of this caliber in our backyard.
