We are on the brink of summer and busy finalizing our vacation plans. Please set aside summer for a moment and fast forward on your calendar to November.
The Friends of the Weedsport Free Library are sponsoring a trip to Lancaster, Pa., Nov. 22 and 23. This will be a two-day excursion into the heart of Amish Country. Several activities are planned, with the highlight, The Sight & Sound theater's “The Miracle of Christmas” production.

Let's review the entire itinerary: Saturday, Nov. 22, the bus will leave Weedsport at 7 a.m. Upon arrival in Lancaster (about noon), travelers will have time to shop, explore and eat at Kitchen Kettle Village. At 4 p.m., everyone will check into the hotel and change for dinner, which will be at “Bird in Hand” restaurant from 5 to 7 p.m.

A quick trip to the theater gets each visitor to their seat in time for the 7:30 p.m. show. Sight & Sound theater sets the standard in the breathtakingly beautiful Millennium Theatre. Beloved stories from the Bible come to life in fabulous musical productions on one of the world's largest live-performance stages. Moving and inspirational productions feature incredible sets and a dynamic cast of actors.

The day ends at about 10:30 p.m. when all are dropped off back at the hotel and tucked in for the night.

Get your sleep, because there's a busy day to come. Following breakfast at the hotel, shopping enthusiasts will be turned loose from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, at the Rockville Outlet Center. Will 120 stores be enough? Be sure to take time out for lunch!

From there each traveler will go to the “Flower & Craft Warehouse.” The warehouse is packed with little shops that feature home decor, floral, crafts, scrapbooking supplies, candles, jewelry and bath and body items. Explore for two hours, then head for the bus and head for home. Approximate arrival time back in Weedsport is 9:30 to 10 p.m.

The cost of the trip is very affordable. Price per person for a double room is $259, triple room $249, and quad $239. Children between 13 to 18 years of age receive $20 off. Children 3 to 12 years of age, $30 off. The package includes motorcoach transportation, theater tickets, smorgasbord dinner, hotel accommodations and breakfast. A deposit of $59 per person is due by June 20; balance due Oct. 1.

The Friends of the Library hope you'd like to join us as we sample the food and culture of the Pennsylvania Dutch. The trip is coordinated by First Choice Travel, Inc. It handles all of our library trips and does a fabulous job. The past few years, we have gone to New York City in early December to see the Rockettes. If that is still your wish, don't despair, the Friends have decided to continue to do that trip every other year. It will be fun to travel in a different direction this year.
