State police are looking for more victims in a scam they say involved removing trees from people's property.
Wolcott-based state police said Thursday that Joshua L. Winter, 33, of 15405 Route 104, Martville, entered into an agreement last year to cut trees on properties owned by two elderly Weedsport residents in exchange for 50 percent of the proceeds from sale of the lumber.
Winter, doing business as JW Logging, never contacted the homeowners about paying them after he sold the trees, police said. Winter was charged with two counts of petit larceny and issued a ticket to appear in Town of Brutus Court June 17.
Police believe there are other victims who never notified police and are requesting than anyone who had a similar experience with Winter to contact investigator Art Luke at the state police barracks in Wolcott at 595-8071 ext. 112.
