NEW YORK - A 26-year-old financial worker was found dead with her throat cut in her apartment bathtub hours before her boyfriend apparently jumped to his death from another building's roof, police said.
Margaux Powers' sister and building superintendent Constantine Ionescu found her brutalized body Saturday night in the victim's Chelsea apartment, Ionescu said. The sister had become concerned after not hearing from the victim for several days, he said.
Hours later, 34-year-old Jonathan Smith, who lived at the same West 22nd Street address as Powers, was found dead about three miles away in front of an apartment building near the New York Stock Exchange, police said.
Powers grew up in Glen Cove, on Long Island, and graduated from Cornell University in 2005, her father, Michael S. Powers, said in a statement. He said she worked for Estabrook Capital Management LLC, a subsidiary of The Bank of New York Mellon.
