One of three people injured in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon died of his injuries, the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office announced on Sunday. The accident took place during an organized fundraiser rally.
David C. Evans, 74, of 2609 Earl Street, Weedsport, died at University Hospital around 6 p.m. Saturday as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, which took place around 1 p.m.
The sheriff's office said Evans was operating a 1989 Honda Trike with his wife, Kathy, as a passenger when he struck a 2005 Suzuki operated by Randy A. Jones, 44, of 30 Lansing St., Auburn. Jones was turning into Camp Columbus on Rockefeller Road in Owasco, a planned rest stop for the Bug Run 2008 rally that started in Seneca Falls.
All three riders were transported to University Hospital.
The sheriff's office said Kathy Evans was listed in fair condition and that Jones was treated and released.
An investigation was being conducted into the accident but sheriff officials said they did not expect any tickets to be issued.
Bug Run 2008 is a charity event organized by the Cayuga-Seneca ARC to benefit underfunded and non-funded agency programs and services.
The event was halted as a result of the accident.
The ride began at noon in Seneca Falls and participants had planned to stop in Owasco before heading to another stop in Aurora.
