It's been at least three years since the Auburn girls golf team has had a player qualify for states and Auburn junior Megan Cahill finally broke that streak when she qualified for the state tournament after carding an 89, earning her sixth place out of 89 golfers in the Section III Division I Tournament Wednesday. The top nine golfers move on to the state tournament at the Fox Fire Golf Course in Baldwinsville on the weekend of June 6.
The Maroons took sixth place overall with a team score of 429 in the tournament with Cristina Camardo scoring a 103, Katie Tonzi earning a 117 and Marisa Ranieri finished with a 120.
“We have been in a building process for the past three years and the team is turning around,” Maroons head coach Donna Goddard said. “The team is on its way back up.”
Also competing in Wednesday's tournament from Division II was the Skaneateles team who placed third overall in their division scoring a 431 overall.
Leigh Ryan shot a 102 for the Lakers tying for 24th place, Hilary Fenner earned a 104 tying for 30th, Laura Nicolais carded a 107 tying her for 40th and Brigid Clary ended with a 118 earning her 70th position overall.
