FULTON -- A former upstate New York city council president is admitting he intentionally deceived state police who were investigating a traffic accident involving his son.
Prosecutors are allowing 70-year-old Kenneth Myers to plead guilty to a misdemeanor obstruction of government charge. Myers was charged earlier this year with a battery of counts, including conspiracy, criminal contempt, criminal solicitation and filing a false written statement.
Myers, who was president of the Fulton Common Council, is to be sentenced Aug. 4 in Fulton City Court.
Myers' 40-year-old son Michael was sentenced in April to two to four years in state prison for telling state police that someone else was driving his pickup when it crashed in Palermo on New Year's Eve.
