Pabis still doesn't know why Auburn budget failed

Tuesday, May 27, 2008 11:42 AM EDT

For the first time in a long time the voters in the Auburn School District have said enough. They voted against the proposed tax increase, they voted against business as usual. The voters have indicated to Superintendent Pabis and his board of education that they have had enough, but does JD Pabis understand this?
Does JD Pabis believe that the taxpayers are upset with yet another tax hike? After re-canvassing the election results, does JD Pabis admit to the board and to the papers, that maybe the economy played a role in the budgets defeat? NO!

In fact it is just the opposite, JD Pabis is convinced that the budget was defeated because of confusion. Rather than accept the results and adjust the budget accordingly, JD Pabis believes that you were misinformed and didn't know what you were voting on.

Time and again I have stated that JD Pabis and his board of education were out of touch with this community. His own words confirm this. JD Pabis is insulated from the hardships the economy is forcing upon the rest of us. His job is secure, he receives a six figure income with a hefty benefit package, while the majority of us have had to make considerable adjustments just to make ends meet.

I would like to inform Mr. Pabis that the only person who is confused is you. You are the man responsible for the proposals, you are the man responsible for the proposed tax hike, you are the man that has turned a deaf ear to the community, so be it three votes or 3,000 votes, this budget lost. Take it back and rework it, take it back and insure the next budget you propose is considerate of the economy and the taxpayers.

Instead of looking for excuses, look in the mirror

" The only people that are 'confused' are JD Pabis and a great majority of the school board. Such 'in your face' arrogance is beyond belief. "

" This is the only area I have read about that the board said a re-vote because voters were confused! All other areas that went UNPASSED are re-doing their budgets.
The people are jokes, and the laughing stock of the state!
Try to get all that are allowed to vote to do their duty-show this board No means NO!! "

" I have been a supporter of the school budgets for EDUCATIONAL spending. (not turf or sports) However when the people have spoken, it is irresponsible to present the budget for another vote without reducing the expenditures. It was a close vote and you had an honest chance at passing a new reduced spending plan. The current plan is just a ploy to wear down the no voters and is unethical. "
