An Auburn woman's request for leniency was denied when she was sentenced in Cayuga County Court Tuesday to one to three years in prison for her participation in a taxi cab robbery.
Lorie Wentworth, 19, of 34 Bradford St., Auburn, requested to be placed on probation instead of being sent to prison for the robbery of a married couple and a cab driver on Jan. 12.

Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann said the couple was taking a cab home from a bar when the driver stopped to pick up Wentworth and two juvenile codefendants.

The three teenagers then began to attack the passengers and the driver before running off with a purse and cash, Budelmann said.

Wentworth's attorney, James Leone, said Wentworth was still just a child and that prison was not the only option for punishment.

Cayuga County Judge Mark Fandrich said his obligation was to protect the community from criminal behavior and said a prison sentence would be appropriate, in addition to $142 in restitution.

" So, now it's the cab driver's fault that this robbery occured. Personal responsibility is the name of the game. I don't care if there were 10 people in the cab. It doesn't give these low lifes permission to rob someone. YIKES "

" Why should the Cab driver, stop to pick
up another fare?He already had a fare
in his cab.Its not acceptable to have
strangers ride with me,just because the
Cabbie wants to make a double fare.It
must be croweded in the cab.(One person
in the front with the driver, and four
persons in the back-seat,with only two
seat belts,(maybe three,if large enough
.)Maybe the Cabbie should be,charged for
having bad judgement.(Did all the Passe

are all the seatbelts??)no mention of th

committed to their safety as passengers
in his vehicle. The driver should be cite
d,for bad judgement,also for accepting
extra fares, who may have looked questio
nable, and obviously too many for his ca
b as well. The Cabbie is forgiven for
his mistake which put all of them at ris

some blame, and what is this,no issue of
how many Seat-Belts were being used.Wow

" 19 still a child???? Is her attorney Leone unaware that 18 is considered an adult???
It amazes me 18yr olds yell at parents stating they are adults-but beg a judge for mercy because they are still a child!
Good call JUDGE! "
