SYRACUSE -- Farmers and agricultural officials around the state are remembering former New York State Fair Director Bernard Potter.
Potter died Sunday at University Hospital in Syracuse. He was 86.
Potter raised pumpkins on his farm in Truxton and was a retired dairy farmer.
He was director of the New York State Fair in Syracuse from 1967-1973. After that, Potter spent two years as deputy commissioner of the state Department of Agriculture and Markets.
A 1943 graduate of Cornell University, he later served on the university's board of trustees.
Current state agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker says Potter embodied the three best things about agriculture -- family, friends and farming. Hooker says Potter will always be remembered for his good cheer and positive attitude.
