Voters weren't confused on budget

Sunday, May 25, 2008 8:28 AM EDT

In response to the suggestion by Superintendent J.D. Pabis that voters on the Auburn school budget were confused - why can't he just accept that the majority of those voting didn't like or accept the proposed budget.
I'm not confused and I find that statement offensive.

I knew what the budget was and voted accordingly.

I guess others felt the same way. I always try to get to the polls to vote (school, local, state or federal.) It's a freedom and right I hold dear in this precious country.

I don't understand why so many people avoid voting.

I also have reservations about the turf vote coming up in June.

I just want everyone to know “state aid” isn't just pulled out of the air - it comes from all of us that pay New York state taxes, so it's not a freebie.

Though it has been stated that most of the funding for the district's part of the turf project has been raised, there are other costs to be considered, one being replacement in a few years.

Even with what has been raised, it will cost each taxpayer money.

I will continue to research the pros and cons before I vote in June.

I do my homework, make a decision I feel is appropriate and vote accordingly. I'm not confused!

" Here's another drawback to the turf: how about when all the seagulls are roosting on it, and leave their droppings all over it?? Then what?? wil they have to go out & hose it off before they let people use it?? "

" Our schools are not failing our children. My children have succeeded very well in the Auburn school district. Many of the parents in our community are failing their children. This is THE issue we need to address. "

" Right on Betty. What is it going to take to make these idiots realize that we can not justify spending more money on a school system that is failing our children?

How many schools do we have on list fro needing improvement? "
