Auburn Police seeks suspect in assault and robbery

The Auburn Police Department is looking for a second suspect in an assault and robbery that sent the victim to Auburn Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries Thursday night.

Police said a warrant was issued for the arrest of Derek Lee "Turk" Cayirliogullari, 19, after the 19-year-old victim identified Cayirliogullari as one of the assailants who allegedly attacked him at 7:17 p.m. on a Washington Street before fleeing in a get-away car.

Police said they found the abandoned vehicle after conducting a search of the surrounding area but were unable to find the suspects.

Police said Cayirliogullari was considered armed and dangerous and urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to anonymously call the police department at 253-3235.

Police spotted the other suspect, James Tyrell Brown, 20, of 81 Owasco St., Auburn, walking down Owasco Street at 10:11 p.m. Friday and arrested him without incident.

Brown was arraigned and remanded to Cayuga County Jail without bail.

Both men have been charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree assault.
