Moravia just couldn't get the outs when it needed to.
The Blue Devils allowed the Candor baseball team to score three two-out runs, all in the second inning, as the Indians prevailed 6-2 in the IAC semifinals at Cornell University Friday.
Taylor Mackey got the start for Moravia but last only 1 2-3 innings. He struck out six but allowed all six runs, five of which were unearned.
Justin Stanton pitched the rest of the game, allowing one walk, striking out three and giving up five hits. At the plate he had one hit and an RBI.
Greg Pasho and Dillion Langtry both had one hit each, while Pasho knocked a run in.
“Their pitcher, Cody Rose, is one of the best in the league,” Blue Devils coach Rich Valentino said. “He pitched a great game.”
The Blue Devils now turn their focus to the Section IV, Class C playoffs, as they host Newfield Thursday.
“We beat them two times this year,” Valentino said. “I keep telling the boys it's not easy to beat a team three times. We're familiar to them, but still need to do our thing.”
