A young man riding an all-terrain vehicle was killed in Niles Friday night when he lost control of the machine and struck a tree, according to the New York State Police.
Brian Romano, 23, of Syracuse, was with two other riders on Ridge Road when he tried to pass the ATV in front of him and went off the road at about 8 p.m., police said in a news release.
A third ATV, driven by Ryan Reynolds, 23, of Syracuse, also failed to negotiate the curve and also struck a tree, but Reynolds suffered only a minor injury, police said.
Romano was later pronounced dead at the accident scene by the Cayuga County Coroner's Office. Reynolds was treated for shoulder pain.
