Instituting year-around parking to accommodate a 20-second trash pickup is a bit much. Perhaps just on garbage day would be more logical.
A year ago at this time, pitcher John Lester of the Red Sox was getting treated for cancer and never expected to pitch again maybe live again and he just pitched a no-hitter! I hope you get a big story in the paper about it --- very inspirational -- but since it wasn't a Yankee, it might not get due recognition.
With the evidence so overwhelming, with pitching rotations, umpire assignments, schedules, everything, when is one sports reporter or editor going to have the courage to write what baseball people dirty little secret that baseball is fixed to get the Yankees into the post season play. The evidence is overwhelming.
How come the self-admitted, 95-percent plus liberal media in this country and their allies in the Democrat Party, are all for men being married. But when it comes to the not-even-as-bad practice as taking two wives, which is also ridiculous, the media is saying it's just about a capital offense.

cm--I DID read into that site, and it's soft-pedaling hogwash. The fact is, that although organizations KNOW that the evidence is in, and that being Gay is mostly a matter of in-utero hormonal fluctuations, they can't state that as dogmatically as I will because they're afraid of losing their funding when they would come under attack by Conservative watchdogs, aka, the "Swift Boat" types who would try to destroy their credibility. But if you read the site I provided, there is no room for doubt. It's pretty clear. "

On the oil/gas issue: Did anyone else catch raving moonbat Maxine Waters (D-CA) suggest that we nationalize oil and gas? She called herself a liberal, and said she would "socialize" the industry.
Funny how the liberals rail against invasive government yet as soon as there is some problem (gas prices, health care, etc...) they want the government to step in and run the show.
Hypocritical doesn't even begin to describe kooks like Waters.

But like any other group of people, the gay people I've known come in a wide variety -- all races and religions, wealthy and poor, private and flamboyant, good friends and real jerks, and even liberal AND conservative! Mostly I don't even think about it any more unless someone brings it up.
I don't want the government telling me how I can think or feel, or what I can do in the privacy of my own home as long as it isn't illegal/damaging to others -- so I have to stand for the same rights for others.
I remember someone once told me that she didn't approve of homosexuality -- but she knew it wasn't her place or her business to approve or disapprove of someone else's life. She didn't approve, but she accepted -- and had gay friends and relatives whom she respected and with whom she got along very well.
You can live peacefully with others who are not like you, and even of whom you "disapprove," if you choose to do so. And in the meantime, hope others feel the same way about you. "

It would be just as wrong for me to think that ALL homosexuals are 100% "wired" that way, as it would for you or anyone to believe that all make some sort of "choice"--if anything, the wide varieties of human sexuality and behaviors should prove that to discriminate against, and form half-cocked theories like connecting pedophilia with gay orientation is completely unwarranted and silly. In “Sexual Abuse of Boys” published in the American Medical Association Journal; “...perpetrators tend to be males who consider themselves to be heterosexuals.”
In USA Today (1994)- “Child Molesters Rarely Homosexuals.”
In Jay and Youngs’ “The Gay Report” (1979) found only 1/3 of pedophiles to be gay.
Rosa Grube, education coordinator at the SAVAR rape crisis ward of Cayuga Counseling Services and author of “Kids and Company Together for Safety” said “I’ve never seen homosexuals to be an issue with child molesters.”
Both Grube and professionals on the National Child Abuse hotline assert that child sexual abuse is, like rape, a crime of anger, power, and control- NOT sex. And 90% of victims know their abusers. Sexual preferences have NOTHING to do with child abuse. NOTHING!

TOP TEN WAYS THE DEMOCRAT NATIONAL CONVENTION COULD BE EVEN LAMER
10. Only the most carbon neutral entertainment allowed: Mimes.
9. Every hour they turn on FOX News for two minutes of hate.
8. Second day is all freestyle poetry.
7. Celebratory balloons being dropped on crowd replaced with much more biodegradable dyed hay.
6. Tolerance competitions!
5. To waste less electricity on microphones, all speakers will communicate through sign language.
4. Keynote speaker: Walter Mondale.
3. They announce that the Democrats' symbol of the donkey is to be replaced with the much more appropriate Queen of the Faeries.
2. All signs must include an Esperanto translation.
And the number one way the Democrat National Convention could be even lamer...
If they hear a single person use "Democrat" as an adjective, the whole thing is called off.

Democrats are picking up the pieces after an embarrassing technical goof that delayed a triumphant rejection of President Bush's veto of a massive farm bill.
Members from both parties hoped to bring the $290 billion bill, which includes election-year subsidies for farmers and food stamps for the poor, due to a printing error, after the discovery that Congress had omitted a 34-page section of the bill, action stalled.
Under current law, there is no income limit for farmers, and married couples who make less than one-fourth of their income from farming will not receive subsidies if their joint income exceeds $5 million.(if Bush veto's)
(If Bush veto's), Individuals who make more than $500,000 or couples who make more than $1 million jointly in nonfarm income also would not be eligible for subsidies.
Boost nutrition programs, including food stamps and emergency domestic food aid, by more than $10 billion over 10 years.(hiding behind a need for more food stamps for USA is "emergency domestic food aid=other countries)
The credit supports the blending of fuel with the corn-based additive. More money would go to cellulosic ethanol, made from plant matter.(in other words food prices will NOT LOWER for the next 10 yrs)
Your senators email addys are all online--before you have family fun this memorial weekend--send them nasty-grams on their voting yes for this-it is the last time to try to stop this bill.......WE VOTE NO!
lawmakers are anxious about their own prospects:

Reading the rest of your post, it sounds like there very well may be more common ground in there than has been showing up in the mostly adversarial back and forth we've seen heretofore.
Here's one place I'd start talking: I'd like smaller government too, but the reduction needs to come in the right places. Cut out the programs and politicians which are in place mainly to perpetuate the "opulence of the minority." Make the good of ALL the people the focus, rather than "What's good for General Motors is good for the country." Eliminate extraneous bureaucracy and streamline processes. Redirect the majority of military spending into defending our borders here at home rather than costly pointless wars abroad. You may agree with some of these and not others, but it'd be a start.
We need to learn to live within our means, and that includes natural resources. People don't seem to be learning the lesson from running out of one and are ready to dash headlong into more environmental destruction in pursuit of another. Instead, we need to pressure energy producers to work harder and faster to finding, improving, and perfecting safe renewable alternative energy sources -- like solar and small-scale windmills, for example.
Past-posted this late the other day; thought it worth repeating:
Who cares if "they" blame "Liberals" (or "Conservatives")? Those are all just labels -- labels which, sadly, many of us have internalized.
GML is on the money -- keep everyone distracted with bickering between themselves and it leaves those truly in power free from any real opposition. The old divide and conquer strategy is working so well we do it to ourselves and the real Bad People (tm) don't have to lift a finger to keep us out of their hair.
That doesn't mean that there isn't plenty of corruption in our government -- quite the contrary. They've just got it down so well....
Personally, I'm not sure if I believe 9/11 was an outright "conspiracy" or an event which politicians had a hand in manipulating into happening and/or suspected and allowed to happen -- either way, I have no doubt that afterwards they leveraged the spin for their own political agendas. I'm not sure it matters all that much. The point is, one cannot trust our government, and one cannot put anything past the real people in power (which I doubt includes every person in Congress -- I am sure there are some honest and earnest people mixed in for credibility) - and that needs to change.
As citizens, we need to work to effect that change. It's the "long string of usurpations" as in the Declaration of Independence.
It is pointless arguing issues with people whom you know will not change their minds, and it is counter-productive (and makes you, and hence your cause, look bad) to go on and on with name-calling and stooping to levels beneath you. Stop wasting energy on the unwinnable battles (isn't that what many of us say about the current war?!??) and instead put your efforts in places where you have a better chance of making a difference.
Consider your audience -- adapt your topic and approach to meet them where they are. You'll have a better chance of people listening and considering what you have to say. "
