The village of Seneca Falls is beginning a touring service with the Finger Lakes Wineries. For $10 per person, visitors will get the chance to catch a bus in Seneca Falls and ride to six area wineries in one day.
The passes will be good all day and allow riders to hop aboard a shuttle that will run continuously throughout Seneca County on Saturdays or Sundays starting mid-June and running into October.
The bus tour, “will showcase some of the best places in Seneca County to visit,” explains Bob Buccieri, director of the Seneca Falls Development Corporation and author of the program.
While the stops will be scheduled at wineries such as Knapp, Sheldrake Point and Wagner wineries, the routes will pass many farm stands, villages and pass by the former Seneca Army Depot.
Tickets will be available for purchase at the visitors center in the village of Seneca Falls starting a half hour before the tours begin.
Once purchased, travelers will board the next available bus, which should run every 45 minutes or so starting at 10 a.m. Saturdays and noon Sundays.
These buses will maintain a regular schedule where visitors can get off where they wish, sample wines, visit the gift shop and, in select locations, have lunch before getting on the next available bus to continue their tour.
“It will run like any public transportation line and pick up and drop off travelers at specific locations each day of operation,” offered Aug Sinicropi, president of the board of the SFDC. “You may visit as many of the scheduled wineries as you like and return to Seneca Falls at the end of the day, and for $10 per person, it is more economical than driving yourself.”
The Tour Bus will visit wineries along the west shore of Cayuga Lake and/or the east shore of Seneca Lake; up to six wineries each day.
The schedule will vary by day to make certain that as many of the wineries as possible get the chance to participate.
Boaters can take advantage of the free overnight dock space available in the village and climb aboard the shuttle to sample the wines as well.
The two largest Finger Lakes are available to boaters through locks on either side of the village of Seneca Falls, and the Cayuga-Seneca Canal may be reached from the Erie Canal as well.
