Former Cayuga County employee John Chick is now in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the prison bureau confirmed Tuesday.
Chick, 66, is serving a 15-month sentence at the United States Penitentiary in Canann, Pa. He was sentenced in March to the term for conspiring to violate the Federal Clean Air Act.
Chick was ordered at the time to surrender to authorities on April 22, but U.S. District Court Judge Frederick G. Scullin Jr. signed an order delaying the deadline until Tuesday. The term was delayed so Chick could be held at a facility closer to his family. He was originally assigned to a prison in Virginia.
Chick pleaded guilty last year to charges that he illegally removed asbestos when working on a boiler in the county Board of Elections building. He was also ordered to pay $108,000.
