HIT: To this year's graduating class at Cayuga Community College, which held its commencement ceremony Sunday at the school's Auburn campus.
These students should all be proud of their accomplishments, and this community should be proud to have a institute of higher education that does so much to educate and prepare people to go out into the world, whether they're furthering their education at a four-year school or entering the workforce.
A great deal of excitement surrounds CCC these days as it broadens programs and looks to develop its entrepreneurship program. Seeing those graduates over the weekend was a nice reminder of why it's so crucial to build on this unique community asset.
MISS: To separate reports of violence involving stabbings in the city, first on Friday and then on Sunday.
Auburn police have made a couple of arrests in the first case, and are investigating the second one.
These crimes could have easily escalated into something much worse. Hopefully, it's not an indication of more to come.
HIT: To all of the men and women who are putting their names out there for school board elections today.
Running for and serving on the school board is a tremendous challenge, one that carries significant stress for no monetary reward.
While there are a few uncontested races this year, there was a noticeable increase in the number of people running in local races. That's a great trend for local education.
HIT: To a successful home electronics and propane recycling event held over the weekend at the Cayuga County Natural Resources Center.
This program provides a valuable resource to the community, giving people an easy way to safely dispose of products that you just can't throw out in the normal garbage. Numerous organizations are involved in its planning and execution, and they once again did an outstanding job.
