AURORA - American Girl Dolls founder Pleasant Rowland is selling off her two mansions in upstate New York's Finger Lakes region.

The listing of the historic homes ends a tumultuous relationship with the small village of Aurora that began seven years ago when Rowland started a multimillion renovation of the area, its buildings and her alma mater, Wells College.

Some criticized Rowland for changing too much, too fast. Others say she helped bring back Aurora's proud character.

Rowland, who lives in Madison, Wisc., says her work to save the village is finished.

Two weeks ago, Rowland sold off MacKenzie-Childs, an upscale decorative tableware and home furnishings company located in Aurora.

The mansions are each listed for $2 million or more.
