Writer should have more respect for grieving family

Monday, May 19, 2008 12:00 PM EDT

As I read The Citizen, I came across some distracting news about a young girl's remains found. Although I did not know this young girl personally, her mother was my son's second grade teacher, and is now my daughter's teacher. I found that the news writer of this article has absolutely “no” respect for this young girl and her family simply because this person had to make a statement as to who this girl was associated with (an escort service.)
Does that truly matter? Did that justify her horrific death. This poor family has been grieving for three years the disappearance of their daughter, and finally the end result was having to hear that their daughter is dead. So let's add a bit of insult to injury by adding that distasteful comment.

Believe me, people were going to read that article without having to add that catty, very meaningless piece of information. My opinion to this writer, for future reference, why don't you put yourself where these families you write about are -- would you like for the newspaper to write about a family member of yours in this manner, should something like this happen to them ... probably not!

Trust me, all news sells, yep even tasteful news. So maybe next time you may try doing just that. Have some respect for grieving families.

" It's not meaningless -- it's part of the news and may very well be a factor in her death. That information could help lead to the killer. "

" Ms McKeen...your letter is so right!!! Some people are so narrow minded that they get off on stories like this, and I whole heartedly agree that this was not the time to mention whatever the girls lifestyle was it had been printed prior. I'm also sure that the brews & the others who throw stones at a tragic time as this have not ever had the heartache of losing a loved one no matter the circumstances of prior behaviors. Don't forget there isn't any very fair justice in this community only for the scum bags plus the Citizen prints this $h%t hoping for more business, they're as one sided as they come. "

" I agree MISSEY1941,
Also maybe one of her clients might remember her mentioning troubles with someone, and until now didnt even know she was killed. Anything is possible. "

" Being part of an escort service could shed light on who killed this young girl and is important. If one of her friends happens to remember a conversation about a certain man(client) then it is a possibility that this person may be caught.
Look at the positive not the negative.
There are many Doctors and lawyers who have worked their way through school, being escorts. "

" If it showes disrespect by mentioning who this girl was associated with, then why did you???? "
