I'm compelled to say something about our new governor and his decision to keep trucks off roads running through Skaneateles and other towns. Trucks keep everything running; they bring food to restaurants, gas to gas stations, trash to the dumps, they transport mail, they bring goods to stores, they deliver new boats to marinas. How can Skaneateles survive with no trucks?
It amazes me that all who complain about them, probably know nothing about them, most drivers work massive hours. When most are home, trucks are working; when most are at work, trucks are working. When most are sleeping, trucks are working. And now our governor and a choice few have just added some more hours, not to add more fuel being used, and with more fuel being used, you just added more pollutants to the environment and more hours for the drivers. You just added fatigue to the driver, which in turn makes our roadways less safe.
Trucks do have accidents as all vehicles do. How much of a threat is a truck to a watershed or the lake? How much of a threat is a boat to the water; I mean a boat does use oil and gas, right? This whole decision comes down to a choice few not liking a little noise. But the choice few have the right connections and nothing better to do. Maybe trucks should call on a banning of boating on Skaneateles Lake. There is a good chance of a boat leaking fuel into the lake.
The bottom line is this is: A choice few that probably have a nice bank account and political influence dislike noise. I know a little about trucks because I drive one, I very rarely go through Skaneateles and now I definitely will not go through nor will I deliver any goods to that town, even if it costs me my job. And I hope every other driver follows. I think it's time that Skaneateles got a real taste of what life without trucks would be like. This won't happen, but it would be nice to see.
I don't want all in the town to think this letter is toward them, it's not, I know some could care less, but to the ones on the truck bandwagon, I just hope some day this state is run by common sense and not Ph.D.s and money.
