Spring is here and wedding bells will soon be ringing for some special couples preparing for marriage. John Waller and Jodi Horsford will soon be married at St. Alphonsus Church. There are also two upcoming weddings which will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Auburn: Patrick Loperfido and Regina Espino and also Kevin Sommer and Maria Zalone. Recently wed at St. Ann's Church in Owasco were Stanley Olszewski and Justine Rouse.
Congratulations and may God's blessings be with all of you.
May is also the month that Catholics traditionally honor Mary, the Mother of God. Can you remember making a May shrine for Mary at school or at home? What fun that was. All that is needed is a shoe box, some tin foil and some blue construction paper along with a small statue or prayer card of Our Blessed Mother to be placed in the center. Then, each child would bring in flowers from their yard, often some lilacs or tulips or daffodils, to surround Mary with a beautiful garden of flowers. I love the beautiful hymns that we sing like Immaculate Mary and Hail Holy Queen. She watches over and cares for all of us, just as she looked after and cared for the child Jesus.
There are also May devotions held at many of the local churches. St. Alphonsus Church will be hosting the Living Rosary again this year at 7 p.m. Monday, May 19.
Holy Family Church offers Benediction and the Rosary at 7 p.m. every Sunday evening in May. The Rosary will also be said at 11:45 a.m. each Tuesday in May, followed by Mass at 12:15 p.m.
St. Hyacinth's will also be holding May devotions every Sunday during this month, immediately followed by the 11 a.m. Mass.
In other news:
€ Sacred Heart Parish has many upcoming activities. It will be hosting a bloodmobile today, as well as participating in the CYO Golf Tournament Sunday, May 18.
€ St. Francis/St. Hyacinth's Parish Cluster will celebrate Father Eugene Dobosz's 23rd anniversary as a priest with a coffee hour to be held after the 9:30 a.m. Mass Sunday, May 18, at St. Francis Church. Father Eugene writes so beautifully in the bulletin each week and his message is always clear, heartfelt and inspiring. To read his message each week on line, visit www.catholic-church.org/sthyacinth/. Congratulations on your anniversary Father Eugene, and thank you for all that you do for the Auburn community.
€ St. Mary's Rosary Scapular Society will hold its annual Mother/Daughter Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 23, in Schrader Hall. For more, contact Jo at 252-8327.
Also at St. Mary's the last pasta supper of the season took place this past Tuesday, and it was delicious as always. There is such a hard working and welcoming team of people that make this happen each month. Their famous pasta dinners will resume in September on the second Tuesday of each month.
€ St. Alphonsus Parish Life Committee will hold a “Town Hall Meeting” after each of the Masses this weekend. They are looking for suggestions for parish community building events and also to find out which events have been most popular in the past.
The meetings will be held in the church immediately following the Masses with Father Lou and members of the Parish Life Committee present. They hope to see many St. Alphonsus Parish family members there for a friendly sharing of ideas.
€ Monday, May 19, there will be a Catholic Call-In as part of the Spirit Alive diocesan program. Why do Catholics genuflect? Can I receive Communion if I am divorced? Call (888) 477-1718 or (800) 4-SPIRIT anytime between 2 and 8 p.m. this day for answers to simple or complicated questions about the Catholic faith. Pastoral ministers at a bank of eight phones will be waiting to help. English, Spanish and Vietnamese responders will be available.
Congratulations to all of our little ones who will be making their First Holy Communion this month. May you carry the light of Jesus in your heart every day of your lives.
Have a great week everyone and remember God loves you so much.
Lovely Lady dressed in blue
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
Tell me what to say!
Did you lift Him up, sometimes,
Gently on your knee?
Did you sing to Him the way
Mother does to me?
Did you hold His hand at night?
Did you ever try
Telling stories of the world?
O! And did He cry?
Do you really think He cares
If I tell Him things,
Little things that happen? And
Do the Angels' wings
Make a noise? And can He hear
Me if I speak low?
Does He understand me now?
Tell me, for you know.
Lovely Lady dressed in blue
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
And you know the way.
